It seems everyone has their own idea of what qualifies as fair, good, very good, excellent... Would you list a guitar that has dings on the back and sides as good, very good, or excellent?

:--D Fucking GC really.

To answer OP's question: maybe fair condition with few dings?

What about the rest of the guitar? If those were the ONLY flaws on the guitar and it had no other wear or fretwear I would say 'good' and point out CLEARLY in the description that there are several dings on the side that are the only imperfection.

If the whole guitar has those dings I would say fair.

Personally I don't judge a whole lo by F, G, VG, E a whole lot, I read the description thoroughly and see what the pictures show, and if there is any ambiguity ask questions or ask for more pics.

On my listings, I say something along the lines of

"please review the pictures carefully, and if you have any questions on my description or the pictures provided, please ask questions or for more pictures and I will be happy to provide all that you need to make a comfortable purchase"

The guitar was listed in "excellent" condition. None of the dings/dents were shown in the pics. One distant photo of the back, and several of the front. The front is in excellent condition, with only a tiny ding near the tailpiece. I disagree on its condition.

THAT IS BULLSHIT. That is not 'Excellent' by any stretch. I am not one to be combative, but I would ask for a chunk of cash back or a refund. That is unacceptable.

Reverb's definition of Very Good condition means "may show a few light marks or scratches but are fully functional and overall great shape."

So if its just the dings then it prob qualifies as VG.

I'll see what I can do. The shop hasn't contacted me since sending pics of the dings/dents. Maybe he didn't notice them? Looks pretty well-lit in there, so...

It's a great sounding/playing guitar. One of the best sounding LP's I've ever played, actually. I know dings can be repaired, but for what I paid... I just don't know? I feel like I paid a few bills too much. If I could document the dings, why couldn't the seller?

Maybe just me, anyone not describing a listing correctly , especially a guitar to be shipped isnt anyone I'd buy a patch cable from much less a guitar. Report it to reverb and itl be corrected, nice to work for reverb isnt it. They cant monitor all listings as mentioned, same sorry shit as ebay. Reverb sucks!

I paid $3k as an accepted offer. Nothing mentioned in the description, and no photos of the dents. The seller threw-in 2 x sets of strings, and a t-shirt... :student:

I would get a refund. Unless you like the guitar and negotiate a partial refund? That is nowhere near excellent condition.
I agree. I just need to figureout how much I should request, I'm not experienced with the pricing/value of reissue model LP guitars. Used pricing varies so much.

“ Excellent

When something's been used a bit but is still close to new, you can file it under Excellent. For modern gear, Excellent items are almost entirely free of blemishes and other visual defects and have been played or used with the utmost care. For vintage items, there may be some marks here and there, but the item is still in the top echelon when compared to similar examples. All Excellent items should be 100% functional in every way.”

That description doesn’t matchup with the pictures you’ve posted.

That being said, personally, if a guitar sounds and plays amazingly I wouldn’t want to send it back. I think asking for some money back would be appropriate (not sure the right way to phrase it with the guy that would get him to feel that way) but be prepared for them to dig in and say “just send the guitar back” - if it plays and sounds as good as you’ve mentioned maybe it might not be worth the hassle.

Ultimately I’d take paying a bit more for a non-mint guitar that sounds and plays amazingly

Perfectly stated. I'll ask for $300.00 partial refund. If they don't accept, I'll file a return request. Had I been aware of the backside finish condition, I would not have made the same offer. My thinking is this... If I can document the dents and dings, why couldn't the seller?

Definitely is shitty of them to take all those pictures yet “miss” the assorted dents on the back / sides. I wonder if they took photos when they received the instrument and if it was on the floor of their shop where it got the dents?

Regardless, good luck, I hope you get the outcome you desire!
