Ok I'm here to clear some things up. I just bought a guitar from a shop in WI. I asked the owner if he could sell it to me tax free, and he correctly responded YES because he is a small shop and won't be doing anywhere close to $100,000 in sales in my state (CO).

Basically it all boils down to each individual state's economic threshold for total revenue or number of transactions in that state. For most states, this threshold is $100,000 - $200,000 in sales and/or 100 - 200 transactions in one year before you’re legally obligated to collect and remit sales tax to that state.

Check here for details on individual states: https://blog.taxjar.com/economic-nexus-laws/

This. I meant 200,000 not 2 mil. Reverb has to because they are way over that.

Guys, I'm the guy dealing with the new tax laws at my e-commerce company. Let me make sure you understand something. The BUSINESS (in this case Reverb) is ON THE HOOK for the taxes WHETHER THEY COLLECT THEM FROM YOU OR NOT. So, if you find a loophole for somewhere where Reverb is reporting nexus, when their tax engine is compiling the reports Reverb still has to pay. So, you're only screwing Reverb. They file based on amount OWED not amount COLLECTED.

Screwing Reverb? It's there site that offer the sub account. The payment are still made through Reverb. Seems to me they are offer the loophole not us. They still collect there 3.5% fee.
