There are a couple of fellows in the business, offering repairs, refurbishment and modifications:

http://www.perfectsoundrockrefurbs.com/

and:

http://www.rockman-repair.com/

One bummer, is it appears that gonnahitcharide.com is having trouble. There was a lot of community knowledge there about the Rockman... Perhaps Rockman Gear Up can fill in part of that gap. Dunlop could decide to play in this arena. They own the rights.

Best,

Plans that i have are out of this world. Voice box effect modulation between 1 and 2 k with .32 mil sec. Loop repeats is just 1 of the features that can be done .. Have many more but rather not disclose in open forum just yet.

Have mod to open up the hi-fi tone that reduces the 80's star wars synthetic pac man compression

You will need the cadmium/strontium reverse nebulous ion generator and kryptonite power supply to really make this work. A little bit of Tom Scholz root ointment will give it mojo to go go.

Yes, check, check and check. Not sure about the mojo, but man does this just brings it to another level.
Its been left alone for way too many years. Just a fantastic platform to work on and build on its foundation.

Tom's design was so ahead of its time, if it would have evolved with the advances in technology, this design would have been preceded all the present day modellers and be at the top of the mountain.

Good luck to you on your project. All this digital gear needs some more analog competition!

I don't mind using digital, it's as legitimate a way to do signal processing as analog. That being said, it is hard to ignore all the clever engineering in analog signal processing. I'm also wary of round trips between the analog and digital worlds, given the potential for quantization errors. We live in an analog world and eventually you have to send the sound back out of a speaker.

One thing to remember about digital, it's like looking in a mirror. The sound is simply a reflection of the real world. However, it can be a virtually indistinguishable reflection. Before you write me off as an analog snob, consider this. Digital music can be pure imagination. If that sound is in your head, you can probably create that sound with digital. Given that, I can't say digital is necessarily uncreative, though it can and has been used in an uncreative ways.

Oh, I don't know. You should see what the Rockman Stereo Echo goes for on eBay. The Rockman Smart Gate and Guitar Compressor also fetch decent prices.

There is no perfect correlation between value and quality.

This is a situation that comes down to the fundamental laws of supply and demand. There are more collectors of this stuff than there is available product. This drives fair market value increases, but it should not be misinterpreted as an indication of superior quality.

Just doin mods to bring it into the new age
I would love something like this, especially to cover old Boston tunes, but all my guitars are set up in Drop A (except for my 13-string). Can you add a massively compressed fizz mode to handle my modern needs (but keeps that sweet classic chorus effect on)? I want my Rockman to djentify More Than a Feeling.

Just get a Rockman Stereo Chorus or Stereo Chorus/Delay and put it in your present effects loop. They'll probably beat any stomp boxes that you can get, even if they haven't been refurbished. You don't have to use a Sustainor or Distortion generator to drive the other Rockmodules, though many prefer it. There's a Wikipedia article that gives an overview of the Rockmodules:
