Revisiting Eclipse glorious sounds...

Sounds great.

I gave up trying to download the presets I bought from you. I couldn’t get anything to load and figured I had bothered you enough already.

You could refresh my memory and we can try to rule out things.

Seems I’m unable to get the midi device to recognize the eclipse. I spent like 5 hours on different days and nothing. The Uno midi device would get recognized, then 3 seconds later it would shut off. I finally gave up. I was trying to be polite and not pester you with questions. I was going to try and use a memory card and ask for files, but it seems difficult to get the proper card.

Are you using a Mac or a Windows PC? And which OS version?
Technically it's not the Eclipse that recognize the UNO or the opposite. It's the computer program you use.
That would be MIDIOX (Windows) or SYSEX LIBRARIAN (Mac). Which one are you using?
Some computers have funny USB ports, particularly the front ones. Better using the rear ports.
Also... both MIDI IN and OUT of Eclipse and UNO need to be connected for "handshaking" communication.
Please email me your full name, thru my website contact, so that I know who you are:

A general guide to MIDI SysEx use....

you need:
-a computer, PC or Windows.
-an audio interface with MIDI ports and updated drivers OR a MIDI interface OR an USB to MIDI cable.
I use an M-Audio UNO both on Mac and Windows machines. A better one is the Roland UM-One MK2.
Most of these devices are class compliant, that is they use OS internal drivers. The Roland is considered better because one can also install dedicated drivers. I'm saying this because on several Mac OS versions the internal MIDI driver tends to be a bit "lazy" and needs a rescan to be
active. Using dedicated drivers makes things better.
There are many no brand/no land alternatives and very cheap too... please do not waste your time thinking about saving, Very likely they won't work or will stop. MIDI SysEx is a buggy protocol so get a good working interface or frustration is your next wall to hit... and you'll end buying the more expensive anyway.
-FREEWARE! My favorites are MIDIOX (Windows) and SYSEX LIBRARIAN (Mac OS). Google will take you there quickly.

WINDOWS PC
Once MIDIOX is installed, connect the USB to MIDI cable. Or install its native drivers BEFORE doing that if available.
Now you need to make sure the software "sees" your MIDI interface.
On MIDIOX click on Options > MIDI Devices and make sure things look like this:
MIDIOX_1.PNG

Now click OK and at the bottom of the OPTIONS menu make sure you click on PASS SYSEX. You don't do this and you'll never get MIDIOX to work!
Close MIDIOX.
Connect BOTH USB connectors to the FX processor (synth/anything MIDI) MIDI IN and OUT ports. Most unit want "handshaking" connection meaning both ports should be connected even though only one may be used. Don't worry... just do as I say. Check those hard to read MIDI IN or OUT names on the connectors for proper connection!
About USB ports on your PC... some machines have funny USB ports on the front so you may want to use the rear ones.
Ok... now everything is connected... power on your FX processor and when it has fully booted launch MIDIOX. This is a correct sequence!
In this default window just drag & drop a single MIDI SysEx file, .syx is its extension:
MIDIOX_2.PNG

Now under COMMAND WINDOW click Send Sysex. IF everything is properly configured, the preset will be uploaded to your fx processor as the currently processing one, meaning it runs in live memory and can be tested right away playing thru it. Proceed to store it in the machine internal RAM or on a memory card if supported and inserted. Close the Sysex file in MIDIOX and move on to the next.
By "PROPERLY CONFIGURED" you are required to also check your processor system MIDI settings. In some machines SYSEX must be enabled to work. And set ID on 0. MIDI CHANNEL on OMNI.
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Now on Mac OS!

download and install SYSEX LIBRARIAN.
-Connect your USB to MIDI cable or read its instructions to install drivers if available and then connect the cable.
-launch SYSEX LIBRARIAN
The screen has a window showing "Act as a source for other programs". You need to click on the right arrows and select your MIDI interface; in this case I have the UNO and that's what I choose.
SYSLIB_1.png

Now the software sees your MIDI interface. Close Sysex Librarian, connect both MIDI connectors to MIDI IN and OUT of the fx processor, power on the processor, wait until full boot then launch SYSEX LIBRARIAN.
Make sure your processor MIDI settings are correct, Sysex enabled, ID=0, MIDI channel OMNI...
Drag & drop a single MIDI SysEx file in it, like this:
SYSLIB_2.png

click on Play (top left corner) and the preset will be uploaded to your fx machine as the currently processing one, meaning it runs in live memory and can be tested right away playing thru it. Proceed to store it in the machine internal RAM or on a memory card if supported and inserted.
Move on to the next preset MIDI SysEx file.

Troubleshooting Mac OS...
on some versions I have experienced internal MIDI drivers lazyness. Looks like they are sleepy and need a shock to wake 'em up.
First off I have the fx processor and Mac connected and both powered down. Then I power on the FX processor, let it fully boot and then power on the Mac. Follow the description above... IF it still doesn't work... you need to shock the internal driver.
Click on APPLICATIONS > UTILITIES > Audio MIDI Setup.app
this utility should show two windows. If it only shows the top one, click on Window on top and click on Show MIDI Studio. This is what we need:
SYSLIB_3.png

Now on the bottom window highlight the MIDI interface image and click on the curved arrow icon on the top right to do a RESCAN MIDI SETUP:

SYSLIB_4.png

That should wake the bastard and get you back in biz!
Refer to the procedure decribed above to upload the SysEx files.

This should be all!
Have fun....
