Hi All,

I’m pretty sold on a Revolt Bass after moving on my Sansamp, which I found to be difficult to set the 3 Channels on the fly.

My question is on the 3rd ‘Modern Drive’ channel.
I can’t see anyone’s demo using this at low gain- I understand this isn’t the point.
That said, I love a Rat pedal at quarter gain where you start to get the hard clipping grit and a massive bright boost- is this sort of thing possible on this channel?

Thanks in advance

Good morning @VOL/TONE/SUSTAIN

Thanks for getting in touch, Ross from Two notes here. You can run channel 3 at lower gain settings and get some of the grit you are referring to; however, I personally like to do this on channel 2 with the gain set around 3 or 4 — I have also had some really great results running a transparent boost in-front of ReVolt with Channel 2 instantiated. Interestingly, I got this from Gojira's live rig when we filmed this video:

Thanks Ross, I was hoping you’d chime in. I’m aware the second drive Chanel is more suited to for this however I’m just trying to justify the Revolt knowing that I’m unlikely to use the drive in its intended way. For perspective, I had a Darkglass D7K Ultra that I really enjoyed with lower gain settings and medium blend to keep a more distortion character (as opposed to “tube like overdrive”). There are times when I’ll need something tight and gritty, which is where it seems C3 excels but I can’t find anyone who isn’t using it in the way I’d like to hear

Thanks for getting back to me and no worries at all. Channel 3 can be used for this, however I personally find (and it's a very personal preference) that the gain onset on Channel 3 is a little too quick; as such, I prefer to use Channel 2 with a Boost and occasionally a graphic EQ in the loop to give me further refinement options - this then gives me the freedom to kick in Channel 3 when I need a high-gain tone! Let me know if this helps!

One last thing if I can. While I appreciate this is the designed way of use, nothing in the manual says about going straight from the output the to input of an amp. The manual says that only the “dry” is sent from the output. Does this mean that it’s not sending an effected signal and that could can’t use as traditional stompboxes?
All design considerations aside, millions of people do this with a Sansamp despite the cab sim being always on from the 1/4 output.
Can you confirm if this can simply be ran into an amp as tone shaping?

Thanks for getting back to me - good question! You technically can, however running ReVolt into the instrument input of your amplifier is not advised as ReVolt's output at Line Level is a little too hot for the instrument-level input of your amplifier. In addition, you will essentially be stacking preamps which can lead to some overly harsh results tonally. Instead, if your amplifier has an FX return, we advise plugging ReVolt into there instead, bypassing the preamp of your amplifier. In terms of the Dry 1/4-inch Output, this will feature the preamp tone of ReVolt but does not feature the cabinet emulation. Let me know if this helps and if you need any more info, I am here to help!
