Immediate YES... but "dry" isn't a term I would associate with Diezel amps... of course those "tone words" are so subjective... but when I think dry I think VHT/Fryette stuff... in which case the Diezel amps couldn't be more different... others have already mentioned this in the thread, but I also have to chime in on Diezels sounds like a mixed and mastered guitar tone is coming straight out of the cab... it's honestly the best way to describe a Diezel, super hi-fi and polished tone live in the room...

Good stuff. Yeah... "dry" probably wasn't the best term. I guess that I thought my VHT sounded very "sterile" and really lacked the "organic" (LOL!) tone of my XTC. Sounds like next time I'm in a city with a Diezel dealer I need to bite the bullet and plug into one.

Thanks for the vid but these type of clips don't help me at all. I can get that tone out of a lot cheaper amps IMHO
Its just a lot of scooped gain and fizz to me. But then again I dont play anything that even close to this type of Metal.

Ola plays great and dials a few diff amps into the same basic gut punch tone.

Did not hear anything diff.

Cheers, and hey, as mentioned, check the "bigger review" link a few posts up for a written description. I've had it now for over a year, still feel the same about it. Only beef is it's not as loud as my other amps in certain situations, but overall, I love it as is, where is.

VH4 is still King.
Herbert is still the best selling amp of the line-up.
D-Moll will be interesting.

I'm a mega fan of Bogner too, they're more organic sounding - more toneful for the styles of music I play when not in Diezel-land. And I've got a few other heads out there too. Just saying, I'm not solely a Diezel fanboi, and have a few others amps that I'll speak equally as high about.

Mojo :D

Reza.
That clip does sounds good to me, closer to what I play etc. Mo, thanks for all the info. I also have a XTC 20th EL34 like you so that is my reference point. Can you tell me how the 2 amps differ to you? That would help me put my finger on it (Hagen) better. Thanks

You bet man, it's gonna be a brief though...

The EL34 20thA is a killer amp that - to me - really encapsulates the 70s, 80s, and into the 90s style of crunch, crush and heavy rock and a bit'o metal. It's the best Swiss Army knife of amps I have ever had the pleasure of owning and playing - Class A-AB, Full Power/Half Power, Old/New, yada yada yada....not to mention the excursions and all this wickedly cool shaping capability. The XTC is loose and greasy. It's a great players amp that can do a ton of great tones - a TON!!! It feels great to play, it's got lots of punch and volume, and really sounds rich. I like the amp with the KT77s (Gold Lion) as it added a level of overtones to the amp. It's like the best modded bionic Marshall'esque amp in the world. In my humble opine.

The Hagen for me was Peter's shift into taking the signature Diezel tone we've all grown to love, and made IT a bit greasy and loose too. But not sloppy. It's a slippery sounding and playing amp if you want it to be. I come from a couple years of VH4 and VH4S experience. I love that amp. But it's really a revealing amp if you're not on your game, and it's also not forgiving in its response to playing. It's a brutal, thunderous, percussive, surgical amp. Not dry, amazingly 3D, beautifully rich, dead quiet, but it's all about that Ch.3 siggy Diezel tone - and it's very surgical. Not like a VHT/Fryette, as they're super dry, but in its own way, the VH4 is "THE" VH4 and Diezel tone, and it's hard to grease it up (hell, I can't think of another descriptor for this, sorry). So, when the Hagen came out, I got one, and I love it. It's easier to play, easier to let it "play itself", reacts nicely to feedback call and response. If the VH4 was The Terminator (you know, one word militant answers, crushingly powerful and potent, and direct), the Hagen is a bit like Wolverine (my gawd this is a horrible comparo)... Has a sense of humor, playful, but also throws a killer mackdaddy beating down when need be and does it with a smile. The VH4 is straight faced when it destroys the stage. The Hagen has a smirk.

Does that make ANY sense?

Bottom line, my musical pursuits have moved away from the calculative chugga chugga style of music, into a more bluesy based heavier style, I like a little more personality and looseness. Honestly, I also wanted to meld two amps together to match up sonically. I was going with the Hagen and the 20thA, but I actually prefer the VH4 and the 20thA. They're more different, therefore, more complementary. The Hagen has the same properties I love in the 20thA, but with Diezel's touch to it.

I'm done.

Seems like an amp you have to feel and experience.

I really wanted to do more clips/videos of the Colossus when Kyle sent it to me I just ran out of time. It has great mid gain and crunch tones and easily does rock and hard rock with no problem. The clean channel is one of the best I have ever heard on any amp. Hopefully I will do more clips of that amp soon.

I played a Hagen and was completely unimpressed. I preferred the Herbert that I owned in just about every way. VH4 is my fave Diezel though.

Well, not to allow too many disses go unanswered. Everyone has their own opinions on things. But I know one Hagen that is impressing the heck out of people every show it is played. Right kind of music, right kind of player, it can certainly shine. When people decide they hate an amp, it's usually because they have a predetermined idea of what their sound or that amp's sound should be. I hate Fender Tweeds. Every single one. But man there must be 100,000 guitarists who disagree with me.

I have a Colossus and a Herbert and TRIED a Hagen.

The Colossus sounds best from every angle. The Herbert and Hagen are fine as-is but the Colossus just sounds more tubey. It just sings and sings from a lead standpoint. I cannot get singing lead tones that from the Herbert - it just sounds flat and processed. Herbert has the ultra wide low thing going on but lacks upper end chewiness that the Colossus has.

Hagen didn't inspire - wonderful design not withstanding.

The Colossus can be tight or loose - you decide and it is never harsh. Lead 2 is a masterpiece of a voice - Just commanding.

It is the clearest, smoothest, singing-est amp I have found. The best part is that it sounds like no other amp. Kinda nice.....

Herbert for sale (mint).....

Peace.

Why are there no Hagen clips?

Yo Reza. That was some diverse stuff there. Seriously dig the harmonics at about 1:04.

That was a great flexing of the Hagen muscle.
