Yeah, I bet. I'm the one who decided to attack an opinion first.

Oh, so anyone who posts a dissenting opinion to yours is "attacking" you now?

Insecure much?

Extremely insecure.

Obviously. Well, I'll tell ya what, I'll try my level best to be nicer in the future and tread more lightly so as not to break any eggshells whose shards could conceivably pierce thin skin.

More metal/shred stuff and less rock/blues, but here are a few:

James Malone
Muhammed Suiçmez
Steffen Kummerer

That is cool that those guys can play some shred and pull of lead singing duties for their band but they are nowhere near Kotzen's talent for singing or playing guitar.

i think thats kind of silly to say, i dont think anyone is smoking muhammed.

kotzen is a good player no doubt, but like i said ive seen numerous threads about this guy lately calling him a "virtuoso" and things like that so i checked him out and nothing i heard comes across as virtuoso at all, his songs are really cheesy IMO and he sounds like a 3rd rate sammy hagar with a couple decent solos.

Like I said these guys have serious skills as players, but they are very one dimensional. And thats not really a knock on them. They do what they do at an extremely very high level. But they are not nearly as versatile as Kotzen as players, singers or songwriters. Kotzen can do pop, blues, fusion, rock, and shred at as high a level in all of them as these guys do in their one thing. Thats what makes him something truly special. He's done everything from instrumental shred records for Schrapnel at age 17, to stepping into Mr Big and playing all Paul Gilberts stuff, to rock blues and soul with his band, and also some jazz fusion with Stanley Clarke. The dude is incredibly well rounded as a player and songwriter and we havent even mentioned his voice yet. Richie has a voice similar in range and dynamics to Chris Cornell for rock, but with some soul influence as well. Oh, and did I mention that in most cases, like Prince, he plays all the instruments on his records?

Thats why hes a "virtuoso". The dude is a musician's musicians in every sense of the word.

Kotzen reminds me of John Mayer, but a little bit better

 I think you must have heard very little of Kotzen and some unfortunate cuts that arent very representative of his sound because these two artists are about as similar as Nickelback and Slayer.

Kotzen is a complete musician that has tremendous soul and very well respected in the music community. He's evolved at so many different levels from the early shred guitar stuff with Shrapnel, the fusiony period to the Soul/Funky stuff..not many players can cover the wide spectrum and do it all very well like him. His singing is bar none, up there with Chris Cornell. He doesnt shred or as virtuostic as he did when he was younger, but if he had to , he could bust it out. I happen to think his songwriting from his last 4 solo records is brilliant. this cuts one of my favs, sick vocals and tasteful guitar soloing.

Kotzen is my favorite guitarist and the one who inspired me to start playing.

To be able to go from this

to this

to this

is simply fucking ridiculous!!

Wow, that was some real stock shred metal stuff with absolutely terrible vibrato.

Kotzen was a more impressive shredder than that in his teens. That is probably why he first got the "virtuoso" label. Going on to play with Stanley Clarke and Greg Howe probably didn't hurt.

Sammy Hagar? Are you a troll or just really that clueless?

Meh, a little similar perhaps. I always thought Richie's voice sounded more like a ballsier Chris Robinson, though.

I dig Ritchie, but calling Suicmez one-dimensional might be wrong, since he`s been playing one genre of music his entire career, while Kotzen has done a lot of different stuff. It only proves that Kotzen has a more diverse taste in what he wants to play.

There are plenty of virtuosos in different genres, but many seem to narrow the definition down to what kind of music they like themselves :)

I have no problem recognizing great players, even if they play a style I don`t listen to personally.

Frank Zappa, Steve Vai, Frank Gambale are three players who I consider great thinkers in their genres, but I don`t listen to their music a lot, because I don`t "feel" it the same way as I feel Vinnie Moore, Malmsteen, Paul Gilbert etc.

Technically, Suicmez is at the same level as Kotzen, but plays a lot less listener-friendly music. IMHO :D
