I've really enjoyed the musical direction Richie has taken post glam shred scene. Plus what he said about gear and tone in the second vid is dead on.... words many of us including myself should tattoo on our brain.

Agree, although a lot of people spend more time on guitar forums than actually playing guitar. And look at the Theory and Technique forum's # of posts as compared to this one. Gear is just more exciting than work, haha. But yeah, Kotzen is right 100%. But the thing is, not everyone who plays guitar is a musician per say. Many just like to strum chords and buy expensive toys. Nothing wrong with that, as without the casual player boutique companies wouldn't survive. I can't afford crazy 3k guitars and amps on my paltry musician's wage. But that's the ultimate irony I suppose. My Dad can afford any guitar he could want, while I most certainly could not.

kotzen is a monster... no doubt... he also stopped using a pick... just adds another bit of dimension to his playing

Richie is an immense talent. His guitar playing, naturally, gets most of the attention, but I really dig his voice. That cat has soul when he sings.

Good points.

Props to Rich he's a beast  but. . .What's the annoying ringy/rattle going on in the clip. I've had my amp do that before too.

Totally sound like a Fanboy but the dude straight up brings it all. From his technique and phrasing to his soulful voice. His writing is pretty damn good too. See him if you get a chance. As for gear I saw him with a Tele some pedal and a 2061X and matching cab. Not really boutique or over the top and he smoked. Probably my favorite all around player left over from the shredders of the eighties.

One of my favorite Kotzen clips

Thanks for sharing that one.

Reminds me of Cry of Love, with a few less band members.

I dig that "earthy"-style of music.

It's not solo Richie, but these rock. Great acoustic work, great vocals, great songs...

Richie is one hell of a musician!!! I am lucky to have seen him and meet him when I was in LA. All of his solo stuff kicks ass!!

Yep! Been an RK fan since MHFR....he was never "glam", dude!

He has so much soul he just fantastic all round. Gotta agree what he says about getting cought up with amps. He'd sound just as awesome through any amp. Toanz in the fingerz.

Going to see RK in Madrid for the first time in Dec =)
Can't wait - been a fan a Loong time...

*Anybody see a strange resemblance between RK and Bruce Willis ?!
Hmmm, maybe its just me...

not to be too "gear focused" but I dig that no pickguard red tele!
