Richie Kotzen Telecaster & Marshall

He's been playing a black one without a pickguard lately. I believe it's actually now a new signature model available thru Fender Japan.

Teleblaster, my wife bought me a RK Tele for my birthday about 5 years ago, and it really is a great guitar! I love it. The neck is huge but still feels great. The pickups manage to get a great rock tone (the chopper T is a humbucker) yet they retain the Tele 'snap' that makes it a tele.

Here are some pics of my 1971 100 watt Marshall that was owned and used by Richie during the Poison/Mother Head's Family Reunion era. It's also picture on the CD booklet of that album.

Nice! What are the mods?

He told me at one point it had a cascading gain mod with a 'cut' switch on the front, but he had it reversed and is basically back to stock with a master volume installed on the back. The inputs are hardwired 'jumped.'

When I say "stock" I mean no major gain mods. I have no clue what the proper value of caps, etc are inside the amp.

Sounds killer though.

Cool amp!

Fender doesn't seem to do many oiled necks so I'm wondering if that neck is just dirty...

I don't know. The neck on my Kotzen Tele is really light, and I've played the crap out of it. I wish it would darken up like this one in the photo. It makes me think this one has less finish on it. Mine isn't really heavily finished, but I guess kinda a satin to it. I might sand it down some to let more of the wood out.

thinking about getting this guitar. the ONLY thing i don't like is the gold hardware. oh and i wish his signature was on the back of the head stock.

Mark, it's a great guitar! Huge frets, big fat neck, gets a great 'rock' tone but still retains that Tele spank.

I think the gold hardware looks pretty good - it's based on the highly sought after 40th Anniversary Teles.

Mike, do you own one?
i have always wanted a Tele and it seems he made happen what i would frets/ neck radius.

I'm watching an extremely used one on ebay now... :aww:
I talked to my Fender dealer and got some email and phone contacts here in Scottsdale to pursue. The dealership says to email and call them about making the RK sig stuff available in the US..... Also he says I'm not the only one asking, so don't be too surprised if they may make a few available to US dealers who request these... Here's hopin'!!!

Yes, I do. I love it. The frets are extra jumbo, and neck is fat. Killer guitar. My wife surprised me with it as a birthday gift about 5 years ago. Mine, however did not come with the drop D hipshot tuner, which is strange because I think it was supposed to. She bought it from Ishibashi music in Japan.

Hi Mike. I guess this conversation is ancient by now but that is definitely the Tele that Richie acquired from the Custom Shop after joining Poison. You can get some really close shots of it at the 3:30 mark of this video - https://youtu.be/WXCrYjgF8So
Notice it has vintage tuners, an American Standard bridge (rather than the Gotoh that the sig tele has) and no comfort cuts. And yes the neck finish is different. Probably more of an american standard semi-gloss.

I've always wondered whether or not his original Custom Shop Sunburst Tele and Red Strat had fat necks or how he stumbled on to 'fat neck thing?' All of his early guitars were shredder thin neck ibanez models.

Badronald - How the hell did you end up with that amp?!

Cool thread. ;)

Thanks man! That's actually my amp. I bought it on Ebay, but was able to verify things thru Richie's webmaster at the time. You can also see this very amp on the Mother Head's Family Reunion CD booklet.

I love my RK tele, but I wish the neck had a little different finish. I think I may end up sanding it and going with a gunstock oil finish (and replace those shitty abalone inlays with regular black while I'm at it).
