Just what the world needs, another partscaster. 2-pc Pine body, 3lbs 13oz. I have a Pine Tele and a Pine Offset Tele both lightweight but not featherweight just like this and they both kick ass. So I figured why not. The exposed part has pretty cool grain.

I got it from Woodtech Routing. I might try HSS with a Tele bridge pickup in the middle because why the fuck not.

Nice sharp corners and edges. Just basic routing but clean.

What kind of bridge are you thinking?
The regular Fender Strat 6-screw. There are several levels to chose from and this one is the Fender Pure Vintage which I think is the same baseplate but has different saddles. You can find them for way less than Stewmac.

I’ve had (and still have) Callaham, Gotoh, Wilkinson, Mann and I think they are all great. But the Fender sounds more like a Fender to me.

Whittled down to 3lbs 12oz.

What color pickguard? It should be a similar color as the Tele.

I'd go with parchment. I always play around with various colors but seems like I always end up back with just parchment pickguards.

Looking great!

Not sure why but the finish didn’t look like the Tele so I sanded it off. The color just wasn’t nearly as nice. So I’m going to try my first burst.

Ordered the neck, no expensive upgrades or anything just specs I like. It will get my usual wet sand with Truoil and buff with denim treatment.

Clear pickguard. That wood is too sexy to cover up. (That's what she said! Badum Tsshh! Thank you, thank you! I'll be here through Thursday! Don't forget to tip your waitress, folks.)

Man, that is some beautiful wood and clean woodworking!

Before you commit to a finish I would highly recommend looking into this and go down the rabbit hole.....super easy to use, durable, results are killer..you could burst it with these colors

BTW I have some really nice guitars and after all these years my Rutters pine body Tele mutt is still always hovering around being my #1 choice

Both my Tele and offset Tele have Rutters bridges. Good stuff. One day I’m going to put a horseshoe Bigsby on the offset but then I’ll either have to do surgery on the bridge or buy one that’s built for it. Thanks for the suggestion!

Rutters pine body (from when he offered them...) and all Rutter's hardware here. I swear by his bridges and if you haven't tried his angled switch plates I suggest you jump in them, 100% ergonomic improvement. That's also a $99 bargain section neck from USACG (Tommy era), body was $99 too, you just never know what it will turn out like, fortunately this one is magic for not a lot of $$$. I have more $$$ into the bridge / hardware and Lollar pups than the neck and body combined.

Seriously too, check out the Roth RattleBomb paints....I'm 6 or 7 deep and won't look at any other finish options now

That's a beauty @* velcro-fly * ! FWIW I recently swapped a Lollar Special bridge pickup with an Arcane '59 Experience bridge pickup and I like it so much thats what inspired putting all Arcanes in this one.

After a shit ton of sanding, grain filling, sanding, sanding sealer, sanding, sanding sealer, sanding, and more sanding I decided to put an undercoat (almost primer coat) of Clear on before any color. And since I had too much Vintage Amber clear coat and not enough Clear Gloss and the back is intended to be Tobacco Brown I decided to use the Vintage Amber clear coat on the back. And I haven't decided if I like the color. It's a little more orange than I expected.

The burst spraying process I intend to use is supposed to done outside-in, darker-to-lighter but just the burst colors. Then you just cover the whole thing in Vintage Amber to give you the inner color and also blend everything better. The more coats of the Vintage Amber the darker it gets. This is just two very light coats (1 coat = 1 pass then a second pass 90* from the first, both light).

They got the pickguard order wrong so I ended up with a free pickguard. Which of course means I'll have to build an entire guitar around it someday. I had all the mint green knobs/tip/cover already so that's what it will get.

Sad update. Too much travel and now its hot af and I can't spray. It gets down to 70* F only on certain mornings and it's humid. Still no neck from Warmoth but it's been 5 weeks so it probably close.

I installed the Fender Pure Vintage bridge intended for this build on another partscaster (an SSS Stratty Strat) just as a tone test comparison with the Mannmade bridge that was on it. The Mannmade sounded great just not as stratty as the Fender. But the tone test got me thinking that I don't really want that tone on this guitar. So that bridge will stay on that guitar and after some research I decided to try the Super Vee Bladerunner. I've heard great things about it. The Mannmade sounds great but feels clunky.

It was 70* and not too humid this morning so I got a step done.

Since I don’t trust myself to spray toward the center of the body with black paint in order to get the edges painted I taped the front and back off so I could just focus on getting the sides totally black. You can see the coat of Amber clear already on the back and only one coat of Clear on the front. There will be an outer rim of black sprayed and faded to brown to cover all the weird edges.

IMG-2247.jpg

And I decided instead of painting the back brown or black that I’ll use it as a practice template for the front. If it looks ok I’ll leave it bursted.

Neck arrived. UPS left it laying on the ground at the corner of my house, unprotected from rain. And it’s been raining off and on all day. My front porch is just a few feet away but up a flight of stairs. And Warmoth just wraps it in a type of foam sheet, tapes it up, and shoves it in a long, triangular box…that was half open at one end. Lucky I’m home today.

Looks good. Profile feels good, just ever so slightly chunky.

A few coats of clear and my stealth water slide applied. It’s my second time using these water slides that don’t show worth a damn. Hence ‘stealth’. I’ll spray it then sand it until the edges don’t show then more clear, level and polish.

It’s my last name in Fender font, so it looks like Fucker. So stealth is actually good here. Sometimes things just work out like that.
IMG-2275.jpg

It’s too hot and humid to spray nitro so the body will have to wait. The headstock is curing.

I installed the push-push pot and immediately didn’t like it. So I decided to get an S1 switch pot which is an expensive way to switch a coil tap. But like the old dude in the first Jurassic Park said, “We spared no expense.”

Is that a coil tap or are you happy to see me?
IMG_2277.jpg

Looks much better but they don’t have a knob cap labeled ‘Tone’. And the S1 pot doesn’t feel as good as the Bourns pots so there’s no way it’s going in the volume spot. I kind of wish they all said Tone.
IMG-2294.jpg

I tried to put a little Easter egg in the shot with the chrome cover…but the birdie didn’t show very well. :ROFLMAO:

Thought I might run out of sun to burst but I finally got it shaped good enough. But still, too much border. It's hard to get the overspray/feathering even. Best I can do first try with rattlecans. Now it needs lots of Clear just so I can sand most of it back off.
