Tracking guitars for the new CD. Gonna be 9 instrumental tunes and 3 vocal tunes. Using the trusty old rig + my newer Mel McCullough teles. A buddy loaned me a neve type preamp - so far so good! However all these Kemper posts have me seriously considering one of those. If I didn't have a space where I can crank, I'd definitely be looking at one of those, but since I can crank it, I guess I'd rather do that... for now :)

Screw the Kemper, crank away! The only reason I'm looking at it or the Two-Notes Torpedo is because I can't crank it up for recording and a couple clubs where I gig have been complaining about the noise.

Cool Darren. I'm looking forward to the new disc. Are you going to sing the 3 tunes?

If you ever wanna screw around with the Axe-FX II, i got ya covered there.

LOVE the Blankenship!!!!

Easily the best Marshall type amp I've ever played. I adore mine!

On yours, what is the 3rd switch on the far left for?

Cool thread Darren! You are certainly more inspired than me. Selling 200 copies of a CD I busted my ass on to finish doesn't exactly inspire me to do another.

LOL yup! I been using a 1 x 12 for smaller gigs for less push from the stage - seems to work really well in smaller clubs

Interesting headstock shape.

Interesting thing is I've had both those necks over 15 years. Mel was trying to define his own headstock shape - I think he did a good job but he's always experimenting :)

Nope, Missy is singing them. In our live show she sings 2 tunes out of the 10 we play and it seems to be a nice addition to the show so I thought it would help the disc too.

Thanks dude! I was gonna see if you have a 5150 I could rent - I got one tune that is screaming for one of those. Maybe the Axe is the answer!

Roy is the man! That switch is some sort of transformer tap switch. It drops it from 50 watts to 35 watts, gives a nice tonal option when recording - with a little volume drop.

woohoo, you just inspired me, maybe I can sell 200 cd's too!!!!!  I love doing it. Plus we been giggng the last 2 years, 2-3 times a month playing the same 10-12 songs. It was time for some new tunes so we might as well record them. We actually sell a decent amount of cd's at our shows. I do all the recording and mastering myself. I got a little system so I can actually do it really quick. Missy can do all the graphics/artwork so my only cost is cd production. I just don't know what else to do :D

Nope, no variac. I've often thought of having Roy do that, but this thing sounds and records so well I'm afraid to change anything. So it's just real loud :D

It's so worth it

If I want the full meal deal, the voltage gets set up high. Sounds nearly the same until you drop below 60v, but I'll even run it at 10v at night and it still sounds good.

Too bad they are not available anymore.....killer concept, perfectly executed.

Lemme know if you want to try a few tracks with either Surreal or my Soldano....

Edit-Or backing vocals!

well...i love your other 2 cd's....so i know the new one will be awesome !!!

thanks dude! 2 down, only 999,998 to go

Cool....have fun with the recording. Will it be different type stuff than the previous discs? The first covered alot of ground while the second was more focused.

I'm just getting back to working on mine....took a year off for some reason.

Hey dude! This one is more like the 2nd disc - just a rock instrumental cd. Now get back to work my friend!

Happy New Year Darren! I know you mentioned you're using a Neve-type pre.
What's the rest of your recording chain? (Mic, interface, etc). Are you utilizing your Ho?
Can't wait to hear this one man!

Hey Happy New Year to you! I'm using a Heil PR20 into the Neve type pre into a Digi 002 recording in Pro Tools LE. I do use the HO. Especially when tracking rhythms and things where I can get by with low volume. When I need some crazy feed back or just a real loud "feel" I just run the amp by itself - that's when it's really fun :D
