Rig-Talk Suggestion Box

this is a great place, my fav. forum for sure. I'd like some simple things to be added like:

1) soundcloud shortcut (the thinggy that allows you to view the soundcloud file and play it, like youtube).

2) +1 on the sub forum idea for the classified, it'd be really nice and tidy.

Clean house/Un-sticky the topics in off topic that have been there for a year.

Remove the temporary HCAF subforum that is dead.

Break the classifieds section into sub-forums. Amps/Electronics, Guitars, Racks and effects, etc so it is easier to read and less of a cluster fuck.

Have a dark-themed template we can select in our user profiles.[/quote]

If I've said it once I've said it a thousand times - I want rig-talk butt-plugs.
I'm sure many men would agree!

Great site, search could be better. Hard to find something to bitch about. I appreciate the advertising, easy to overlook, or click for info... Most here are in my guitar "wheelhouse".

I'd like to see the forum add that feature where a preview of the thread content pops up when you scroll over a topic title.

Yea good call. I love that.
+2

Def think putting separate categories in the classifieds is a great idea. Would make it easier look for specific items much faster.

And I also agree that the search function is kinda lack luster and sometimes not easy

I think we should have an epic bikini thread

Huh....I like the search quite a bit. Seems to be about the same as any other forum. I do sometimes wish I could search "SG" though!

Ok....honest suggestion....lose 90% of the sub forums...they detract from traffic on the main forum.

Keep the active ones (Diezel) but lose the others.

I suggested this on the other thread. Subforum sections like some are suggesting for the classifieds - Guitars/Amps/fx-Pedals/Digital/etc. For the main sections? At that point you are basically getting rid of the Main forum section. Or you could just let everything flow through the main, the threads that people like will keep getting bumped and the ones that people don't will fall. It might keep the whole thing seem not as slow as some think it is.

the main forum isn't the place for that unless it's not a person associated with the companies who's posting it.

The issue with that would be that any manufacturer could simply have others post for them. I've done it on TGP, and I know several other major companies who have as well. And a Retailer's Section (TGP) is as dead as a sub forum. I have learned of many, many new products based on threads posted that if left to a retail section or sub forum I never would have known about. Off the top of my head I can name 5-6 amp builders, and a few in the works, that I never would have known about if they didn't post up here. One or two I'm not really into, but others I'm glad to see threads from. If I don't like a company I simply skip over the thread. Not sure how that's really advertising?

It may seem that this is my opinion because I am now a manufacturer, but that has only been for a few months - and I held the same position before. I use Himmelstrutz pedals that most here have not heard of. I learned of them on TGP. The company itself isn't allowed to post about products unless replying, but some people that do their videos for them can. I think the distinction is really non-exsistant. But I am thankful that those post weren't regulated to a Retailer's Section, as I never go there and never would have learned of them. They are awesome by the way.

Another simple issue is you are penalizing the manufacturers that have sub forums. I know Two Notes puts out amazing products, and if they didn't have a sub forum the people that post there would instead post in the Main forum - and many more people here would be checking them out. A load box with IRs! How friggin' cool is that?! A pedal that has IRs for a pedal board! Amazing! And top of the line quality. The best direct live sound I have ever gotten was with a Two-Notes product - and I have played most everything out there. It's a shame that more people aren't discussing and trying these. Why profile your amp to run direct? Use YOUR own amp direct with a Two Notes! I bet if all the sub forum threads were moved to the main forum they'd be a big hit here. Same with several of the sub forum companies.

If Kempler had a sub forum here you'd never hear about them anymore. Even the biggies that have sub forums go weeks without any post. Diezel gets a lot of play, probably because they are pumping out some great stuff all the time, but mainly because Papa Bear post and is pretty active there. Which is really cool, but might be hard for most manufacturers. (And a big part of Diezel's growth was the old Tone Merchants (Ed Yoon) forum. Not much different then what happens here.) Rick has never made one post in the Wizard sub forum as far as I can find. I think that was a big draw for the sub forum idea -that you could converse directly with the builders. If it isn't going to happen then it is lacking.

Be glad you live in a world where all these manufacturers are out there and able to "advertise" on the net. Wasn't too long ago that the only way to check out new gear was from a magazine ad, and you couldn't find out from people all over the world what they thought. (which can be as unhelpful as helpful) You'd be stuck with some crappy review by some guy that probably got the gear free if they gave a good review. (I know this for a fact - I wrote some of those free gear reviews.    ) Now there are forums, blogs, social media sites and You Tube videos, etc.

I don't think of seeing a Duesentrieb video of a Krampe amp, or a build pic of sah5150's as advertising. I see it as information for me that gives me more options on great gear. I for one don't want to lose that.

The subforums don't really bother me since I mostly browse the main section but most of them aren't very active. It seems like nuking some of them would might add more traffic to the rig-talk section for those who are complaining about it being slow.

What ever happened to that live chat idea? Being able to chat in real time would be a really cool addition to the site IMO  I hate having to have a conversation through PMs when the subject matter is not private. That alone would take the site to a new level in my book.

I could see what i could dig up on the subject. The chat idea gets complicated when you start thinking about all of the android and smartphone support. Flash is dangerous due to security. Then there is whether you pay for customization, or build your own. Then you have database user integration/login/verification with membership accounts, site security, and most importantly whether the server can host the chat session or you pay to host it offsite, etc etc.

Chats are nice to add into vbulletin - does make things go smoother. But they are easier said than done. Its been a few years since i programmed any layouts as well in phpbb or phpnuke.

I just looked and we have like 11000-12000 members so I have no idea how that would work, it could get messy even though most of the time there aren't very many people logged on. Maybe a 30-40 member cap could make it work :dunno:

Either way, it would be a lot easier than sending 20 PMs over a 3 day period just to catch up with another member or see how their rig is coming.

Thank you Shark Diver for the kind words, but as a matter of fact I asked for a subforum here. ;)

The communication in Rigtalk is different from other forum as we (manufacturers) have a dedicated space where we can put informations (some may call it advertising) the way we want, without spamming the main forum.

I don't want to go on the main forum to advertise for a new endorsed band or a minor update on the products, and I spend too much time already trying to make some technical support in a lot of threads around the world.

In the subforums the information is focused on a brand and a search in it is easy (I guess).

Rig talk since we are here is our main support forum in english, and that won't happen if all the thread are all over the main forum. I think.

This is a "rigtalk specialty" and a big part of the added value (again, from a manufacturer point of view).

As far as video and demo section. Whenever I have tried to post a video or clip in anywhere other then te main forum it barely got any views and no replies. Posting in the main forum received more views ( and still not much comments but more then nothing. I guess my clips threads are thread killers. Haha )

I personally browse using the new posts feature. But I guess more just frequent one forum ?

Agree 100%

Far more thorough (and eloquent) than my two liner :D

I like the way HC and on some other sites you can drag your pointer to the thread. It highlights it so youc an see if you even want to open it or not

Know what Im talking about?

I usually use the "View active topics" link so I don't miss the sub forum discussions. If you just go to the main forum, you will never see these posts. Next I'll look at the main forum and the subforums I frequent if I haven't been here in a day or more...I usually stop in once a day (at least).

Keep the subforums.

I don't mind the ads, or anyone posting their great related products as permitted.
