Over the past few weeks some of the good vibe that has kept me a R-T regular (at least in lurking mode) since 2008 has waned a bit and I am at a loss to see why. This site has been an oasis among guitar/music forums. There was no stupidity like HC, no mindless attacks on people and now we are seeing some of that here ( I do remember the Cameron drama of a few years ago. It seemed that the drama was contained to that particular issue).

As far as I can tell everyone from the manufacturers to Brad seem like decent folks and I have not seen any of them do anything but treat people right even when attacked.

I understand the Cameron drama, and don't want to repeat any of it here but there are posts almost daily by people ripping on the guys that are have sub forums or Brad( As others have said and I agree, this does not include negative reviews of products that are maturely presented).

It is too bad this has to happen here.

Let us know when you find utopia.
This is the imperfect world we live in. Deal with it.
Enjoy what you can, ignore what you don't.

I agree. Isnt that why we are all here??? Is for me. Dont feed the trolls.

Yeah, best thing to do is ignore threads that are clearly started to throw mud at others. They'll die very fast if no one posts responses in them.

Bye, bye!

Rig-talk is not the hole in the wall it used to be. With Brad increasing advertisement and the new push for membership for classifieds plus the daily lives the regulars have, it is no doubt you will be seeing a shift from the old days as more and more members come to check out RT.

I do feel you though. RT has felt like stagnant water. Topics in the OT section that are over a year old that need clearing, the Gus-G section has been dead for over 6 months but is still active.

I welcome all and hope all come to stay. But to say the old days will be like the new is slim coming. More membership will require more moderation, not less. And as time progresses things will change.

I agree and while I did post on some of the latest Cameron debate, I will no longer do so.

I am not looking for Utopia, I get the imperfect world. This forum changed, perhaps it is just temporary.

I do ignore the obvious posts but there is an attitude that hits posts that otherwise would be cool healthy debates. We should be able to debate and discuss without the HC factor.

It goes in waves...people get pissy, then get over it...unfortunately, we lose some cool people along the way.

The major thing that I have noticed is that as of late, This place is crawling as in agonzingly slow. Ive been pretty busy so Im not around all tha much but thats my biggest gripe. We all work so that can get in the way...

Its a community and shit is going to get aired out from time time whether we like it or not, Like anything else, if it doesnt appeal to you, ignore it. This place is nothing more than what we make it, at least to me ...

just my .02

Not to discount anything that Brad has done but I think many forget the volume of activity this site had before Brad took over. We were on our own VM and still had resource issues because of the traffic. Advertising doesn't draw people, it provides a revenue stream if you can already draw people.

I agree with you Kage. It's like half of the members have gone on vacation or something.

Get postin', folks.

It seemed like the volume was there until recently. Ive been out of the loop so Im probably not the best to comment..

Agreed...many of the people who I interact with the most seem to be very infrequent visitors these days.

I was thinking the same thing - it seems kind of dead around here lately. I don't post a lot, and maybe I'm part of the problem, but I'm on here for a few minutes several times a day. The "Off Topic" section has threads that are ancient - and yet still on the first page. That says a little something about the quantity of topics. The "Bin Laden" thread is still a sticky! Important info at the time? Sure. But it's not exactly new or relevant at this point. There are also some spam threads that have managed to live for days (if not longer). Shouldn't those have been nuked already?

There also seems to be a lack of gear being posted in the classifieds. I know the economy is down, but it's gotten (marginally) better over the last several months but the for sale ads have slowed. The "Rig Talk" section also seems to be somewhat lifeless with very few "must read" posts.

I still like the place. Hoping for an up-tick in the participation and post volumes...

Im pretty new. I only know of rigtalk/Brad days.

I agree with this but at the same time gus g thread was huge why not keep it archived?

The same could be said about certain manufacturer sub forums that are pretty much dead.

I dont have any good suggestions of how to improve the best forum on the web.

Bring some of your friends over here.

I have some thoughts on this and will post them later. To me, Rig Talk is a shadow of its former self. I'm not talking about actual numbers of visitors, because I have no idea on that info. Just excitement and interaction are way down.

It's still the best gear related forum there is. I try HC when this place gets slow but it is a complete and utter JOKE!

Right now at random I checked the top 5 threads in the "AMP" forum on HC. They are as follows:
1.Do you believe in karma?
2.Class 5 into 2 4x12s? Can this be done-EASILY.
3.Wow...hospital billing is a joke...
4.**OFFICIAL HCAF 2012 NFL SEASON THREAD***
5.Any of you guys live next to a pond/small lake? Another reason why I hate canada

And it does not get much better after #5. It is a freakin joke, That is the AMP forum on one of the biggest sites there is. I guess HC's cool if you want to trade dick jokes with a bunch of junior high losers. I'll take R-T anyday!

Ironically, this thread contradicts the wish to have productive Rig discussions

My take is this...

Some of the most outspoken former members are not here anymore and they posted a ton...Unfortunately allot of it was gay humor (not that I care who is buggering who but it got old quick) or antagonistic towards other members. I have not banned more than 5 people in my tenure here, as its not my style but some people need to make a dramatic exit and or request to have their accounts deleted and I don't ever argue with a request to do so. I am not going to chase anyone to stay.

I get people like the drama and miss some of the bomb throwers. We actually have more members than ever but more lurkers than regulars. I do the best I can with my limited tech skills and best judgement. Who knows maybe I should of went the route of Gear Page and charged everyone to be here as a supporting member or some other type of arrangement so I didn't need to promote my guitar shop which is my only gig. Allot of people seem to think I am rich or have some kind of family wealth and thats just not true at all.

My wife works as do I and I get up everyday drop by daughter off at school and go to work just like most of you. I am doing what interests me and its not always easy but I for the most part enjoy it. I don't hide, I don't freak out when people post negative things about me as I realize they don't know me and 9 out of 10 of them wouldn't say it to me if they met me.

Hell if you put 10 people together you get a realty show with wildly varying personalities, try doing it with over 10,000 people on a forum. You do the best you can... I appreciate the membership and I hope you enjoy stopping by here on Rig-Talk.
