Thoroughbred in Clearwater? Man, what a store that was!!!!! I remember talking to Elliot once, i was playing a Dean and jamming some Pantera riffs and he said to me that i sounded like Dimebag!!!!! I was happy to hear that.

I went there 3 times. My parents live on the east coast so i used to make a week end out of the trip to the west coast just to go at that store. I come from Canada so it was quite a ways!!!!!

Actually, it was in Tampa on Hillsborough. I think there was a smaller store in Clearwater.

hung with elliott many times at dean hq and at the doa parties. spent some time in his office a couple of times playing some of dimes guitars, and he helped me get all my custom deans built. he really dug touring as bassist for MSG and leslie west.

RIP Elliott. he loved music and gear more than you guys can possibly imagine.

The one i am talking about was the HUGE one set in an old mansion with fountains and a huge marble staircase. I mean huge store.

Wow that sucks. He was a super nice guy. My drummer was friends w/ him and he set us up w backstage pass at a MSG show a few years ago. He was a down to earth guy having the time of his life playing w/ Schenker.
-RIP

Musta been after my time. I was in Tampa early to mid '80's. I remember a time BEFORE Thoroughbred. I think Elliot's store was called Thunderbird Music.

The store in Clearwater was also where the Thoroughbred Music guitar shows took place.

The main Thoroughbred store was on Hillsborough in Tampa The Clearwater store was in the Kapok Pavilion. I guess Elliot bought that for the location of the Clearwater store. There was also a store in Sarasota. Thoroughbred was the Best Music store ever. IMO

Sorry to hear of his passing, hear he was a cool dude, saw him play with Schenker and Uli, anyone know what kind of cancer he had?

You are correct LWD. There were 2 stores in Tampa, 1 in Sarasota, the Kapok store in Clearwater, 1 in Orlando and the warehouse in Tampa. Had a slew of great times while there.

I met Elliot on a flight to Tampa years ago. Long time friend, will be missed.

second fight with brain cancer. he beat it a while back, but it came back hard recently.
