RIP Sperzel Tuners

My local retailer heard through a distributor that Sperzel Tuners has closed its doors. I couldn't find anything online but rumors, but they are a local company here in Cleveland. Their anodizing is done at a shop about two miles from my house. It was just him and his wife running a little shop across town, and it was a small operation. I guess price hikes and foreign competition may have finally put them under.

Their website is down, and I don't see an official announcement anywhere. All the AI interjections say they're just taking a break. What do you think? Are the rumors true?
 
I have not heard about that. Visited their shop twice years ago and it was cool. Not fancy, but watching craftsmen hand machining and assembling the parts while the Mrs. talked me through some of the steps was a great experience. Sad to hear.
 
Not surprised given what I've read. Sounds like it was a long time coming, but it sucks none the less.
 
I've only ever seen one guitar I can think of that had them, and it's an awesome LP replica I've got by a guy who did them for Billy Gibbons. I wonder if I should get a spare set - they seem to be doing great but you never know.

I can't imagine sales are very high though.

They were awesome to deal with a couple of years ago for a replacement part I needed
 
Glad I got a custom red set order in on time about 1 1/2 year ago.

I researched a set for a build a few moths ago, couldn't find any let alone a choice.

I assumed they were in the toilet.
 
FYI their website appears to be up with an order form. No idea what the state of the business is.
 
They were cool back in the day when they were the only option for a locking tuner, but I feel like they got outclassed decades ago

Well that sucks, hate to hear that about anyone shutting the doors.
 
I have them on one of my older guitars from the early 1990s. They were ahead of their time, but others are now producing something as good and often easier to install.
 
Shame. I've had great results with them on several guitars, including a Warmoth project I did several years ago.

What does RT claim to be the best locking tuners today for a superstrat? :unsure:
