RIVERA TBR1

Shit, the TBR1 (no designation) I had just as much gain as my TBR1SL or the 2, It had "the mojo"

the other stuff.........my bad.

BTW, Verderacer, only the power amp tubes need to be matched.

You can just go ahead and plug any preamp tubes into the other slots for the most part, unless two of them say 12AT7 (or anything other than "12ax7"," 7025", or "ecc83"). That is the phase inverter tube for each side, and it might be spec'ed for lower gain.

in that case, you want a 12AT7 for that spot (but, hey a 12AX7 would probably work too)

I find JJ 6L6 GC's to absolutely crush in my TBR-3 (which is jsut the power section of the TBR-1, TBR-1SL, and TBR-M)

The side that is giving you trouble could be any number of problems.

bad preamp tube (most likely)
bad preamp tube connection (would just take some contact cleaner and working the tube in and out)
Bad power tube(s) (would take replacing both power tubes on that side and rebiasing)
Dirty jack (very likely)
something else, blown resistor?

Guitarslinger,

Well it's the power tubes from what the shop tech says but it seems that we cant get Rivera to respond. At least during business hours when the tech is there. They have called a total of 5 times and left messages. To date the 2 messages I have left have not been responded to.

The owner said he will shelve the amp for a while if they dont get a call back when they are open. Not too happy about this as I loved the way this amp sounded. I even asked if he would consider selling me the amp as is and said he would think about it. :(

Just have to wait and see.

Main reason I don't do business with rivera anymore !!

their happy as shit to sell you an amp direct from the factory but if it has problems a few months later good luck getting it fixed - you might get it back after a 3-4 month wait (if your lucky !!)

Their custom is great if you live in California - it blows donkey dong if happen to live on the east coast

Hello,
I am a french guy who own a Rivera TBR-1SLM (a mixture of the SL and M version, see the yellow things just below). I bought it in Paris in 1995 (second hand). Probably designed in 89-91' by Paul Rivera itself. Absolutly gorgeous!

So are you saying that your willing to sell it to me then ???? ;)

former tbr-1 owner here.
that series of amps from rivera was the only one i've connected with.

but even then i just used it as a stereo power amp live with my triaxis rack.

built very solid, and features galore...pickup compensation control, pre-preamp pedal effects loop, post preamp effects send and return both with level controls....the guy was extremely thorough.

the M model was supposed to be more dumble/mesa mark I
SL was super lead...claiming sykes tye grind...i tried to mod mine to SL but paul ran out of the parts to do so.

Well I went to the store this weekend and the amp still sits on the shelf waiting for info from Rivera. From what I was told they finally got a hold of somebody there and was told they would send them some schematics to repair the amp. Apparently there are a few other components that are in need of replacement other than tubes. So for now I just have to wait and see what happens.

If anybody know of a TBR1 SL for sale please let me know. As of right now I have cash set aside and doing my best not to spend it elsewhere.

BTW<

I ended up with a TBR2SL in addition to my TBR-3. It's unreal. SOOOO LOUD, and SOOO Warm.

killer amp.

WOrks great as a power amp too.

I own 2 Rivera SL-240 and am willing to sell them. I live in Lake Tahoe.

Wow, rookie mistake to not look at the date of the post I responded to.... I still have the amps and am interested in selling them. To my ears they are incredible tone monsters with all the flexibility of an amp that not only has 1 but 2 effects loops, one for floor pedals and a stereo loop for high quality effects units.

Yep they are great amps. Yrs back I emailed Jason Bieler of Saigon Kick and scored one of his personal TBR 1SLs. Great amp. Probably the best clean channel of any high gain amp I’ve owned; the C+ is also amazing.

Actually, the Slave to the Grind disc was recorded with an M100.

Listen to any of the first 3 Saigon Kick discs and it's all TBR-1SL. Jason used a DS-1 for a boost to "smooth things out." At least that's what he told me when I asked him about his setup for the SK albums.

Jason's Guitar Tech Phil Plaskon AKA: Spidee was the producer on the first CD by my old band Headdrive. Phil actually let me play through the TBR-1SL That Jason Gave him. The cd that we recorded was a triple Recto mixed with the TBR-1SL. I remember loving that Amp. I love Rack Mount Amps like the TBR-SL1, Dual Racktifier, Rackmount SLO, KSR Artemis & amps of that style.
