Hey guys,

Weighing a MOD 50 vs having Jeff mod me up a Randall RM100 to take the dual modules.
The plus on the RM100 is the extra module.
Downside is that it's straight up 100 watts - no power scaling

The biggest thing I'd ever play is a club or a state fair so stadium volume isn't exactly high priority.

Also - if I get the RM100, I'd definitely have to re-cosmetic the entire thing - which I'm actually viewing as a plus.
I'd hate to take a perfectly good MOD50 and muck with the headshell, but with the Randall, it's a must.
So, the creative juices are flowing - so many beautiful custom headshell manufacturers out there.

Really looking forward to this interaction:

"Hey Man - great tone up there tonight. What type of amp do you play?"
"Glad you asked, it's an Egnater designed, Randall manufactured, Hilligan modified, triple slot,
dual channel, midi enabled, 100 watt modular head loaded with Blackface Deluxe, AC30, and JCM800
inspired modules in a custom hardwood headshell by J Design Cabinets."

I guess I'm really mulling Fender Clean (probably D/D) and VX (different clean to Rory Gallagher) - and then...
Do I need the Marshall module in the mix?
Of course I do - so RM100 all the way right? Just lay it down easy - Fender Vox Marshall - what else do you need?

I know I'd love the MOD50, but for some reason three modules with two slots bugs me.
But how is that different than 12 modules with 3 slots really?
I guess there's something to be said about having 3 available in a single gig with no switching.

Darn Egnaters.

thanks
Nick

P.S. - The ridiculous "chickenoolie" handle is a take on people always referring to my wife and I as Nick & Julie.
I set it up when I was just "looking" - now that I'm sticking around, I'm "looking" in to the rules of changing it right after I post this.

Play both before you make a decision...the sound/feel of the RM100 is a lot different to the MOD50 and don't forget the MOD50 comes with the half power option....doing half on the 100 is trickier for sure.

Still waiting for my Jeff modded RM100M...this will be the third time I tried an RM100 though :D

On the RMod100 (as I have named it :D ) you can pull the fuse out for the outside pair of tubes and have 50 watts. As for different yeah they each have a different feel. I think the RM has a tighter feel. I luv the Mod50 with a TM212 cab. Either is a good choice. I had the super mod from hell done to my RM. :D

Nothing like an Mod100.That being said, the Mod50 sounds great and sounds bitch'n at half power, but the third slot is the shit. And yes they sound close, real close but really feel way different.I love em all so I'm no help!!! :D

Personally I prefer the Mod 50. Tonally it sounds more complex to me, and you cant beat getting something hand made by Bruce and his team. There is a reason that the Mod series is more expensive...you get what you pay for. It was the best 2K I ever spent.

As Jeff says, buy an Egnater and never look back!

The difference in volume between 50 and 100 watts isn't enough to write home about and the 100 does have an excellent master volume.

Another important power section difference between the two is that you can mix tube types on the 100. For example, 2 5881s in the middle pair and 2 EL34s in the outer pair. Also, the tubes can be biased individually. On the MOD50 you need to buy a matched pair because you cannot bias the tubes individually.

You forgot the word "nuclear" in that description :D

You can also buy the E2 and use it in the effects loop of the MOD50 for another two slots when it comes out.

Yup! I haven't had severe amp GAS for a while but module collecting/modding has been fun and rewarding.

I agree with JKD about the feel. The 100 is a stiffer amp to play but that has its place in life! With what you play I am guessing that you may prefer the MOD50.

Good luck with the decision....
