can you get the tone like a triple recto out of the road king or roadster?

The Roadking/Roadster can do all those typical Recto sounds plus a bit more. But don't let Mesa fool you into thinking you're getting Marshall sounds out of it, that ain't happening.

Yes, you certainly can. I'll speak for the Roadster because I've been gigging with one as my primary amplifier for the last couple of years. The Roadster (and also the Road King) get the full range of rectifier tones. In addition, they also have excellent clean tones (unlike a typical dual or triple rectifier) and a bunch of other great tones. It's really one of the most versatile amplifiers I've played.

I play in a setting that requires me to cover all sorts of styles of music and I use all four channels extensively, I'm quite pleased.

Correct. Why would you buy a 6L6 based Mesa and expect Marshall? Mesa isn't trying to fool anyone. The Brit voicing on the Road(ster|King) refers to a Vox like grit, not a Marshall tone.

The Roadster is probably one of the most versatile stock amps out there, imo.
Much more versatile than the standard rectifiers anyway.

The roadster can cover a lot of styles and sounds. Really versatile amp. Ok its not going to give you that EL34 crunch but thats the kind of sound you would actually want a marshall for or Diezel.
The clean sound is really something else. I think its modelled on the lonestar but I actually think the roadsters clean is better than the lonestar (just my opinion and persoanl taste).

I combine my Roadster with a Deizel Herbert or Lonestar and A/B them with a Keeley switching system or GCX

YESSSSSSSSSSSS....YOU Nailed IT!! DIEZEL n MESA, thats were i was going with this!!!! Halleluja!!!

I used to have a triple recto, started with dual bout 10yrs ago, then went to the triple had it for 8 yrs, then thought O' I need Diamond amps, althought they were very very good, their clean was awesome...They AInt no MESA! My wife dont sell the mesa you'll regret it, man was she right, most of my fav sounds and bands use a mesa in conjuction with another amp.I also have herbert/vh4/6505+ and a splawn nitro....my main amp live is HERBERT!, but I want my mesa back to run with herb,Here now they have roadking and roadster, triple rect clean, wasnt clean... but I read the rk and roadster do. I went to test drive a rk but there was something wrong with it, It was a tube but store wouldnt just stick one in, they sent it back.

I have to have the ch2 triple rec sound out of it, thats most important. Just wondering if the extra$$$ to go for roadking or go roadster, have you guys tinkered w that prog linkage stuff? have anyone a/b rk n roadster? tough dec, but im hoping they are triple rects with many more sounds, esp a nice clean.

Yes, it sure can. That channel on the Roadster is exactly the same as the Road King. The only difference is you can combine power tubes on the Road King (EL-34 and 6L6) and you have a choice of either on the Roadster. Progressive linkage and an extra effects loop are the only differences between the Roadster and the Road King. They have the same circuits, channels, voicings, etc.

Bear in mind the DT song that video is covering is also played with a 6L6 powered Mesa so rest assured, you can get that with the Roadster.

I have a printout somewhere with john petrucci's settings on the roadking for the train of thought cd or tour. I tried them on my roadster and it was damn close. Only reason it wasn't exact is I don't have the same outboard effects or talent like JP.

well thats what i need to hear, cuz there are a few on the bay, they seam to pop up regularly for sale and at decent prices. I thought I could replace that mesa sound, but here i am 2 yrs later regrettting selling my recto. I dont care what the mesa haters say or all the shit reviews, MESAS have MAgiC MoJO! :worship: :worship: :worship: and I love their sound and there build quality!

*flame suit on* I had a roadster, nice amp, but it seemed like all the options homogenized everything. I thought it sounded great until I bought a friend's early dual recto rackmount - I prefer it by far over the roadster's high gain and the roadster was sold soon afterwards.

Roadster did have a much better clean tone and four total channels, all sorts of crazy switching, very versatile! I'd recommend one if you needed a recto amp with decent high gains and cleans. But if you're looking for mesa recto flat out ROAR, get a rackmount recto or an old two channel.

Just my opinion, don't shoot the messenger. :)

went and test drove them, thru mesa stiletto and recto cabs. The roadster is a winner, you get the triple rect sound and then some, also fel like there is more control with the roadster than the reg rectos. the clean was EXCELLENT! w/ a splash of reverb. The recto cab for me was better, it had more low end, the stiletto was nice and tight but recto had more punch, but not flubby.......where the hell do people get flubby from? maybe cant dial amp in, whatever.

we also demoed the new mark 5, very nice amp, apples n oranges to recto. but very nice.

I wonder what a mesa cab sounds like if i drop two v30 n do x pattern of k100s?
