Im new to rectifiers. Just picked up a roadster but i got offered a trade for a dual rec.Ive heard many say the dual rec sounds better. I like channels 1 and 3 on the roadster they dialed right in and sound great plus im a fan of spring reverb. Can do without channels 2 and 4. Never played a dual rec and most likely wont get the opportunity to. Any thoughts?

Roadster was darker to me. I took mine back and got the DR.

What dual rec? Old 2 channel Solo? Tremoverb? 3ch Dual solo? Mesa calls a bunch of their amps "dual recs."

If it's an old 2ch or tremoverb, maybe. I always thought the Roadster was kind of cool and even say they sound more like an older 2ch than the newer solo heads do. I would not trade it for a run of the mill 3ch solo. For one, the value of yours is higher than a 3ch solo.

It is a 3 channel solo head. How much more would you say the roadster is worth than the 3 channels solo dual rec?

I've had both. Traded the Roadster for another amp and kept two DRs(#211 & #590). But the only reason I've done it was because they are exclusively for studio use.
If I need it for live use and versatility, the roadster sound good enough to replace the DRs. They don't sound exactly the same, and the Old DRs still sounded better for my studio needs, but the Roadster is so versatile that would be a no brainer.
If it's a 3 chnl DR, I woud just keep the roadster.

I have a 2 channel Dual Recto and a Roadster. The Roadster has seen constant use for the last 3+ years while the 2 channel sits on a shelf collecting dust.

Considering you're not getting much use out of channel 4 i would consider the exchange if it was for a new Multi-Watt Recto. If it's an older 3 channel I think they're selling for about $650 on the used market right now...

On a side note, ever thought there might be a reason someone was offering to give you their amp for yours?

Lol of course theres always a reason. for 650 id rather just save up and buy a dual rec. What would you say a roadster goes for used?

A quick google search shows them going for $1500 -1800. All were 2x12 combo versions... Never saw a head for sale but I'm not going to spend all day searching either.

Where are you seeing Dual Rectos for $650?

I don't remember where I saw it but it was about a month ago.

I just checked eBay and there's one sitting at $560 with 24h left. I doubt that'll be the final selling price so it doesn't really prove anything but deals do happen.

It's one of the reasons I haven't sold my 2 channel... Every time I look at the used market it goes back into storage.

If you wait, assuming you have a decent local CL, you can buy a 3ch dual rec solo head for 700 to 800 bucks pretty easy.

A 3ch dual rec solo head is like a Honda Accord, there is a TON of them around, they are cheap, and they are extremely boring.

Roadster heads are around a grand I think on the used market.

I prefer the Roadster.
It's feature set and channel assignable functions are wonderful. That slightly darker voicing (which can be defeated by turning up the presence) smooths out the amp so you don't have the fizz that many Dual Recs are said to have. Four channels is a blast too.
And while it may not be the one you pick, the Roadster is by far the more valuable amp between the two.

I bought one on CL for $800 and sold it because it was indeed boring

Isn't the Roadster just another version of the Dual Rectifier? Try the amp out first.

$800 sounds more typical, I'm not so sure $700 is that easy to come by. Singles, yes, but I've never seen a working/decent condition Dual for $650.

Rectos and Accords may not be the most "exciting" amps or cars you can get, but they are ubiquitous for a reason, they are solid as fuck, do what they do extremely well, and I would take either one over most amps or cars that cost twice as much.

Pretty sure he just meant the 3ch solo heads and not recs in general

Someone drives an Accord...

Jp. Had an accord for a few years back in the day. Had mojo man.

I ended up selling my roadster because I couldn't get used to the popping going from channel to channel. Even if I did the button cycle prior to using the amp, it would come back. I ended up going to the Mark side of the fence, just to try something different.
