Use them mainly for Country type stuff.

Rob,What brand of leather couch is that

What are these guitars? how do they compare with the 335? I once owned a 335 and it was cool. Would like to get something different this time around.

:hys: It's microsuede, or something like that. I have no clue - you'd have to ask my wife.

Bill's is a Gretsch Silver Falcon, mine's a Gretsch Black Falcon. Essentially the same guitar, the only real difference being the colour of the hardware and sparkle binding/pickguard.

Check it: http://www.gretschguitars.com/products/ ... Collection

I'm a big believer in these guitars. But don't be confused - these DO NOT do drop-tuned modern metal!

I love my 335. But these days I mainly play Charvels.....

Are the F-holes on your Black Falcon larger than those on the Silver? It looks that way in the pics.

It's possible, and even somewhat likely, given the different era of Gretschs our two guitars are copying.

The main difference between yours and mine is the body shape. Yours is a pre-Fender Musical Instruments Corp. ("pre-FMIC") Gretsch. The pre-FMIC Gretsch reissues used the 70's, Baldwin-era body shape, which had a straighter and larger upper bout. The post-FMIC Gretsch reissues used the late 50's/early 60's Fred Gretsch-era body shape, which had a more curved and smaller upper bout.

Interesting piece of Gretsch-related trivia.....

As I am sure most folks on here are aware, Billy Duffy has used a White Falcon since the early 80's and recently Gretsch came out with his own Signature Model. In all of the press and interviews on the Signature Model, Gretsch and Duffy have been espousing how wonderful it is that they recreated the details of Duffy's 70's Baldwin-era Gretsch. In reality, this is not the case. They did in fact add some of the 70's aspects, including the period-correct tuners, pickups and zero fret. However, they did not recreate the 70's body shape on his Signature Model. Here is his Signature Model next to a pic of the 70's Baldwin-era Falcon - you can see that the upper bout is NOT the same......

With both you and Gary inquiring about it, I just might need to list it in the Classifieds...... :D

I had a CS 356 Gibson that was just fantastic, had great punch and bottom end with lots of sustain. I also dug it through high gain amps, it would sing and sustain at will.

I've always thought about a 356 for my bogners.

So what pickups do those gretchs have? some kind of p90s? do they cut?

The Gibson 356 into my Uberschall was massive tones

No, they're Filtertrons on the two Gretsches Bill and I posted. Gretsch's take on a humbucker. Not as beefy sounding as a typical bucker though - they definitely have their own thing going on. If you want heavier tones, some models come with hot rodded TV Jones pickups that look the same but have more punch and girth.

Some Gretsches also come with Fidelatone/Dynasonic/DeArmond pickups, which were essentially Gretsch's version of the single coil.
