One caveat on the Meme about "becoming the best". He had to leave the U.S to do it. England and Europe were a lot further along on how people of color were treated. Not perfect of course but a world apart from the U.S. in the 60's. Once you're a star, the U.S will treat you just fine. Many of the black rock 'n' roll and blues legends from the 50's and 60's had to go to Europe and England to get any respect or a paying gig. I'm sure on the home front Sammy Davis Jr. ran into a lot of being treated like shit until they discovered who he was and suddenly, "who does this nigger think he is?" becames yes Mr Davis, anything you need Mr. Davis.

Sorry, don't mean to derail the overall sentiment of the thread. That just jumped out at me when I saw it. Never has someone embodied the guitar as an extension of a human being like Hendrix did. I never want to hear the radio songs ever again but damn, he's still the king..

My Aunt got to go to Woodstock. Was pretty close to where I grew up but Jimi was before my time. I got into him when I was 12-13 when I first picked up the guitar. He was a big inspiration on me and my friends back then as far as just wanting to play guitar.

I love all the movies and documentaries. Used to own a few of the remaster cd's but my favorite song of all time was a cover. All along the watchtower. He killed that song.

Yeah I have to agree. There are several others along with Mozart who would eat Jimi and his mountain for breakfast but as far as straight up rock and roll Jimi was the best.
