Rockstah got his hands on a Mojave Peacemaker and is modding

He said it is not really 1959 but 2203 so something has already been changed?

Clip sound good, little too hairy on top but it sounds like he is addressing that.

He has always been a good player, but I have heard better amp tones from him

this is one ive been waiting for

a peacemaker with normal low sensitivity channel and rockstah high sens channel.

he's not there yet with the tone but he'll get there i bet

He will definitely get there. He's pretty close already.

I hate to say this but I also agree with what they are saying about the MM transformers. I have one in my metro and I think they are ok but there are definitely better transformers out there for sure.

all IMHO.

I liked my mod a lot that Rob did for me... Bit more gain and versatility...

Hmmmmm, I'll bet Mike probably says the same thing then.  Most all the amps I've owned that I liked the feel of usually have had MM.

To me its more about the tone then the feel. I like sag and the Mercs have that in spades. The thing I don't dig about the ones that Ive used is that it adds something to the tone that Im not digging.
It's like a harshness instead of a creamyness :emofag: :grim:

why not have both or all three for that matter, high gian, low gain, clean.

The MOhave does a one tube combined type thing. Some say its sterile. theres that way, the parallel way (old non masters) and the cascaded way.

he converted it to cascade. It sounds better than other peacemaker clips ive heard. But then again I beleive a great player could sell you Gorilla..

I'll agree with that.. They do add something in the upper mid range that is just sounds odd to me.

Bogners, Wizard and Soldano HR's use MM....I don't know that any of those sound harsh...not a Bogner fan, but don't think I'd attribute it to the transformers.....

Have you had other OT's in your Metro? i may have asked before, but I don't remember.

Rockstah and Ralle are both nailing the EVH tone, and both good players! but one of them, and i never remember which one, just seems to really have the EVH vibe in thier playing?

anyways i'm glad they're both over there cutting trail for wanna be's like me!

No, But I will be replacing it and comparing it to another transfromer in my metro.
As far as other people using the Mercs in their production amps Ive heard that some are better then others. In other words the Wizards/Bogners might have an OEM transformer made specifically for their amps which may change the tone because it's built upon their needs/agreement with MM.

Mojave's MM transformers are proprietary and unavailable to anyone but Mojave. Those guys on the Metro board saying that you have to immediately yank those MM transformers have never used or heard that particular flavor MM in anything.

It's kind of funny the guys on there that are disgruntled Peacemaker owners. I've had mine for almost 6 years and somehow manage to get some tones out of there that I like. Besides the hack that I am, other tone deaf hacks like sah5150, mentoneman, Zachman and billybogner also used and really dug their Peacemakers. Heck man, billybogner is one of the sickest players I have ever heard on ANY forum and he still has his PM. Used the heck out of it on his last CD (as did I) yet these guys on the Metro board talk about them like they are worthless hunks of junk.

Can I get Rockstah-like EVH tones out of my PM? Well, unfortunately no. But I may be able to soon........

I like old Drakes and MMs (Peter gave me some kilos of their irons). I always tweak the same circuit (which I'm using for my crunch channels since 2 years now) without a doubt.
One reason is the OT - the other reason is that cap values are still +/- several % (except FKP-Wimas), and very few guys who are mocking brands in the internet have actually measured their caps before mocking - lol.
You can easily hear 5% difference of the first coupling cap's value, no matter if you are using some Voodoo-broken-in-Mojostuff or the cheapest MKS available. So your cheapo MKS may sound as good as your Voodoo stuff, if the first is 5% up and the second 5% lower than the labeled value.
Just my limited exp. and opinion. :)
