Do they chug??? Haha    I found the piranha for 200 euros and the access for 300 euros and I might end up pulling the trigger although I can't test them in person.

Its capable of a lot of interesting tones.
You can't fully turn off the noise gate though.
I had one for about 5 years and gigged with it.
It has been called "the poor mans triaxis" Its okay. I kept the triaxis though haha

For 200€ I'd buy it.

I paid $89 on ebay back in 1998 from daddy's junky music. Was mint in box too.

Yeah man that's what I ve been told! I want to mainly use it with my mesa boogie mark III or torpedo two notes cab as a preamp for 80s 90s thrash

Oh yeah it will work well with an amp through the return. Not sure how it would sound through modern recording equipment? I never ran mine direct. I can't imagine it would be bad!

Do it!

Thx dude!

Never played the prophesy.

The piranha had a lot of versatility but it did the modern Maiden / Priest sounds the best to my ears. It could do thrash stuff as well. I don’t know if it would work the best for chugging. Make sure if you get one that the front controls are all functional and don’t skip around, makes tweaking tones a lot easier.

H&K access sounded good (better and more flexible than the Piranha imo) and a little bit more modern but the units are a little finicky, if I remember correctly the one I sold had some of the internal connectors come loose in shipping.

That's very interesting that you said that. The Rocktron Pirahna preamp/Replifex effects processor/Marshall 9100 power amp was the rack gear set up of KK Downing of Judas Priest. I would like to try one as I've been always an ADA Depot 3TM Ultra mod MP-1 preamp kind of guy.

Hated the Piranha I had. Just a very unremarkable and uninspiring unit. Never regretted letting it go. Not a modern sounding unit but also not a great at vintage sounds.

The piranha sounds like the tone on Loudness Soldiers of Fortune and similar to Fight War of Words. The downside to it was that there was no in between sounds. It was either that distortion sound or really, really, clean. The prophecy had some interesting stuff and probably sounds a lot better.

Rocktrons effects stuff is top notch though, for stuff that was top of the line that is now dirt cheap.

H&K Access was used to record Cynic first album, Focus. Not a bad tone ! I had one for years and it sounded great. I sold it when I got my X99. The matching power amp, h&K VS250 was great too.

Thx a lot guys! I am now waiting to hear from the sellers! All of em from Italy so unfortunately I can't test them ...I am just looking for a tube preamp / pedal preamp to be using with my torpedo CAB so that I don't have to power my Mesa Boogie Mark III.
