Rookie bias question

Try the VDC 20? Maybe it auto ranges.

What's the exact model of your meter? Try looking up the instructions online to see how to set it for mV DC

I am going to, I can get a reading in continuity mode .24 it is a fieldpierce SC66 meter.

I was rolling some preamp tubes in it and accidentally turned the bias pot so I am trying to measure mA.
 
I don't think that meter can display millivolts. Looks like it only goes down to whole volts. You need a meter that reads mV DC, not mA.
 
You guys are playing through amps that are thousands of dollars. Do yourself a favor and buy a decent meter or a Bias Rite

the fieldpierce is not cheap by any standard that's a 300.00 meter. it more for industrial work. it was given to me. my old one I threw out was cheap and worn out. but thank you for your observation!
