Can anyone help me with getting something close to the opening guitar in this song?

I think its some sort of VOX amp with a plate reverb but I seem to get farther away from the tone with everything I do. I am trying to set something up with my Lynch Box using the Super V module and an M13. I know I wont' get exact but if I can get close I'll be happy.

Am I wrong in thinking its some sort of VOX and heavy reverb?

I think it is a Vox or maybe even a Jazz chorus.

I think the guitar might have a lot to do with it to .It does not sound like a sing coil or humbucker perhaps a danelectro with lipstick pickups ..A charvel will not get that tone IMO

Yeah I was thinking it might be a Tele he was using for that Twangy tone.

Oh man............

Love that tune :D

Bridge pup for sure, could be tele. Not too sure about Vox though, those days lots of direct into the board with cleans.

I'm thinking strat in pos 2 to get that sort of flat clean. Could be Vox, but I'm not sure.

Thanks everyone. I may try some different guitars. With it and see what I can come up with. I would hate to have to bring another guitar just for this song though. Maybe it will give me some ideas and I can fake something with an eq.

Sounds like a Ric/Vox combo
Yup that would be close. But it sounds like a 12 string guitar or he's using an octave pedal

It sounds like a 12 string or Nashville tuning and a Vox. Also it's fairly compressed.

hmmm. sounds like a strat to me...maybe a hiwatt w/ plate verb in post...

I thought that guy always used Rickenbackers and telecasters..

Guitar is easy enough to spot in these recent video ...LOL...amp is a bit harder to find...Gretsch hollow bodies...

Looking back at old live footage though, he was definitely sporting a tele.

She is a pretty awesome woman. She had a cancerous brain tumor, went through chemo, had permanent brain damage, lost vision in 1 eye, couldnt count or read any longer, still has issues moving with her right side and yet continues to move forward. Back in the day, when there was a lot of pure drivel being made, I thought they were one pop band that really brought it! Wish they would have been more successful, although 2 top ten albums and a shitload of top ten singles is still pretty awesome.

Sounds quite "ringy" and twangy. Definitely either a Telecaster or Ric/Danelectro. And yes I can hear the octave/12 string effect too.

The Vox sounds like a very good guess too. It doesn't sound like a Jazz Chorus to me.

An EQ pedal with the amp will help get that tone, if you can't get it with just the guitar.

The live tone sounds different than the studio recording. There's either a 12 string or a nashville tuned guitar layered in with a standard tuned guitar. That's a cool trick that's used on a lot of recordings. http://www.guitartips.addr.com/tip164.html

The eq from the console is also a big factor in the overall tone.

So, can you get classic Roxette tone with a stock, cranked Plexi? :D

+1

Single coils...either a strat or tele with some major compression and a bit of break up should get you there.

Sounds like there is a bit of Acoustic Simulator mixed in with it?
