anyone use these in their amps? I understand they're a higher grade chinese 9th gen tube if I recall, which is the 12ax7b.

Mostly for high gain amps.

Thanks

I love them. I use the HG+ in V1 and the HG in the rest of the slots short of the PI, in my JCM2000 DSL100
Thanks for the reply. Any other 12ax7s you can compare them to tone/gain/noise wise? EH, JJ, etc..

Thanks

Same here. Basically all of my pre's are either 8th or 9th gen Ruby, or the Mesa labeled version. I have some variants if different positions but the majority are 8th or 9th gen Chinese.

I've always wondered but aren't these just a hand selected or tested higher grade Chinese tube?
Yep. So if you don't like the 8th or 9th gen chinese tubes tonally you probably won't like them. I've always had really good results with Ruby's selection process from pre's to power tubes.

Orange ships them in their amps. My BH Terror had them in all slots save V1 which was a JJ.

Overrated. And the cheapest, flimsiest pins of any tube I've ever had. Garbage.

There's a reason they were stock in so many amps.. CHEAP.

I use them all the time and never had a problem with tone or pins..

How do you guys know which tubes are which gen? Dumb question but I dont know alot about tubes.

Half of mine are microphonic as Hell.
I wouldn't sell to anyone those fuckers I prefer to send them to the garbage.

They sound pretty good but not that long ago I stocked up on the older square getter version and I think those are great. Ali express was selling them for like $4 each in lots of 10 maybe 5-6 years ago maybe less. Now they’re way more.

Get the older Beijing square getter Chinese, like Spider says.
In my opinion, they are FAR superior.
Yep, still have a good stock and yes many are Ruby's. Sorry @napalmdeath I've never had issue with Ruby's. I believe you are a fan of JJ's which I'm not a fan of most of their tubes, especially pre's. I do like the EL34L though.

I always use a mix, not a fan of JJ's in certain spots. It really depends on the amp, but in all cases, I can live without Chinese Ruby's across the board. I find their power tubes abrasive, (but I did really dig the Chinese TAD 6L6GC-STR that they stopped making a couple years ago. Huge bottom end). We'll see what the new red base PSvane's do.

I just hate the Ruby pre's because the pins bend up, break, and are flimsy. Plus, I thought they just had no character.

Right now, my Friedman has Tungsol EL34B's, a JJ in V1, Tungsol in V2, Hot Mod in V3, (with a GE 5751 and a JJ), and a Sovtek LPS in V4. So, yeah, I use a mix in every amp.

I have them in my Uberschall and Nitro. Added a lot more aggression compared to the Tungsol I had prior. I was all about Tungsol until the tube shortage happened and was in dire need of new tubes for both of those amps so I was able to find the Rubys for a decent price that wasn't outrageous on price. Glad I did because now they're my favorite preamp tube for hi gain purposes.
