Running mismatched OHM cabinets.

Wrong...he would use the two 4ohm outputs as he suggested if running mono.

I'm running both cabs as mono with the a Digitech RP1000 for stereo FX (using the Quad's stereo FX loop).

What I wrote 2 posts ago is what you want if you're using both sides of the 2:90
 
It will work just fine. Impedance is a frequency dependent. You will have more power at certain frequencies going through the 8 ohm speakers. You will be just fine. I can't say for the "tone" as tone is a very subjective "measurement".
