Rusty Floyd

The luthier sounds like a good option because if the rust is a result of too much moisture being in there, it wouldn't hurt to get the neck checked out, setup, etc. too.

I would lightly sand blast it and paint it semi gloss black but that's me. Since its not an OFR and its a licensed job I would just replace. they are cheap and plentiful.

Those Gotoh's are nice. I had one on my Wolfgang and it worked great. As a matter of fact, I think John Suhr prefers the Gotoh over the OFR nowadays.

You can try some Naval Jelly. That trem looks trashed though. I'd just replace it.

The Gotoh Floyds are more money than the German OFRs! The one on my Peavey Wolfie Special is solid and seems to be better quality than my Schaller OFR.

What you should do is see if there are any shims under the saddles on the rusty trem. Maybe you can buy a stock radius Floyd/Gotoh/Schaller, then use the same shims to raise the saddles to match the rounder radius of the EBMM?

That being a $1,500 plus guitar, I think spending $200+ to replace the trem makes sense.

That particular trem on that guitar has those special offset saddles that make it easier to adjust intonation...I don't think you can get those parts anymore..you may have to live with cleaning it results, or replace it per EBMM recommendations.

Spoke to the luthier and he told me to bring it in when I get a chance. He said he could get me another floyd for it no problem. Just gotta scrape up some dinero!

wow, that is nasty. I'd just drop an older German made OFR in that bitch and call it a day ;)

Agree! Will an OFR fit on the Gotoh posts? Is the spacing the same?

Call ebmm back and talk to AJ. See if he'll hook you up with some saddles. I got some floyd parts before from him, he's a cool dude

On a side note...shame on you bro for neglecting that guitar for that long, srsly :aww:

+1. You can't get the offset saddles anymore so I would buy a gotoh floyd off ebay for $155 and put the original one up in a safe place. Regardless if it's trashed or not, it's the original piece and if you ever try to sell the guitar without it you will lose money on the resale value...

Saddles are $6.00 a piece from EBMM. Talk to Nate. He will hook you up.

The off-set saddles? The ones they sent me were $25 each from ebmm and they were the wrong ones after I specified off-set for an evh. When I called them back they said they only have the "new" version...

Another method is to take a container full of water (large enough to submerge the bridge), cut up a full potato into thin slices and throw it in, then the bridge, seal it, and let it sit for two to three weeks. It will eat away all the rust, 100%, including pitted spots and whatnot. However, if you do this, make sure to open it up outside, as it releases a HORRIBLE stench.
