I had the first Custom 3 he did.
It was fucking awesome. I wish I still had it.

Hey Pete....Been a while since I been out the MTS land...stratotone":2n65yrzk said:modesty forbids me to comment on the modules themselves *grins* but you really are missing out on the entire modular concept if you use a poweramp other than the Randall one. I ran mine for awhile with EL84s (using yellowjacket adaptors) and then KT88s on the other side. Since the amp was midi switchable too, with a RM4 preamp it gave me *8* different tones. Another fun combo is EL34s on one side and 6L6s on the other.
Finally, one other really neat idea with the power amp that I used to do is compare different brands and types of power tubes. Could load up say JJ 6L6s on one side and Ruby 6L6s on the other or whatever combination and compare them instantly. Plus you can bias each tube individually.
Tonewise I think the Randall is as nice as the boogie stuff, the VHT poweramps are a little better tonewise, but not nearly as versatile.

I had a Jaded Recto too. It was awesome. Hes got a killer plexi mod toothe rossness":h9q5swx6 said:I used to have 3 of the mts systems- a RM100 head, a RM100 combo and the RM20 combo.
As far as modded modules, I had a Jaded Faith recto, Friedman BE and a Salvation Matchvox.
The recto was alright, but not mind-blowing.
The BE sounded nice, but in order to get the tone I wanted from it, I had to re-bias my tubes to run a little cooler, which made the other modules sound bad.
The Salvation Matchvox was my favorite of my modded mods. It had vox and matchless tones in spades and could go from shimmering cleans to in your face alt rock distortion. It sounded great for everything.
I also really liked the stock 1086.
I really like the MTS stuff, but it got to a point where I was buying more modules than I could afford and it was a money pit. Other than that, the only real downside was how much it all weighed. The RM100 combo weighed close to a 125 pounds. even with wheels on the amp it was hard to move around. Carrying it upstairs was nightmare.

Salvo has incorporated an extra pot, that is pushing envelopswhy hasn't someone pushed the envelope and modified the MTS module platform to accomodate another gain stage or two?
Stock hi gainers, yesall of the modules start to sound the same

But if you get modded mods from different people, they sound drastically different. A 1086 compared to a 1087 to a 1666 is light years apart in tone, feel, everything
There is some crossover in the hi gainers if you stick with one source, but mix it up and there is huge variety

You'll have to try a Salvation, his modern hi gain is fantastic. I wouldn't call it thick, but totally aggressive and waaay improved on the stocks. He strips out the components and starts from scratch, so if there is a way to jam in more gain stages, he would be the one
