Does anyone know what size block comes on the MIJ San Dimas Floyd Rose?

best guess is 37mm or 42mm since they are non-recessed. To me that is the worst area to remove mass from which is why I don't like them recessed. The recessed routed bodies ones come with 32mm. If you are looking to replace it you can go 37 or 42

Well I opened it up and it's a 37mm. So you're saying it could be replaced with a 42mm? How are they measured?

It's the length of the block. On bodies that have a recessed route a 42mm block would stick out of the rear so much that you couldn't put a rear cavity cover on.

So yeah you could go with a 42mm block. If you are replacing it you may as well get a big brass block or heavier one form floydroseupgrades

Cool, thanks.

My USA San Dimas and SoCal both had 42mm blocks in them. Of course, they were quickly replaced with big blocks from floydupgrades.com.

My '08 So Cal had a 37 in it. Now replaced with a floyd upgrades brass block.

is there a good thread i can read about these replacement blocks

With a 42mm, or any other size, there's no problem with clearance when dive bombing? The slot looks pretty narrow with the stock block and I know the brass block is even wider.

I just bought a Brass Block for my SoCal and i went with a 37mm block.

I measured it and if i were to drop in a 42mm, it would stick out just enough to stop the back plate from fitting on. So i just stuck to the original block size, which is 37mm on mine.

Who puts the covers on anyway :)

Post when you get it and let us know how you can tell the tone difference between the two. I've been thinking on getting the thicker blocks, I do believe in the more mass in the block the better the tone and sustain.

there's a video on youtube. do a search for "floyd upgrades before and after" with the guy from the guitar world videos

Well, I swapped out the original 37mm with a 42mm big block and while I was at it I also swapped the Floyd for a Schaller Floyd. Big difference in tone, feel and stability. The Schaller is way smoother feeling and doesn't seem so cheap. The base on it is quite a bit thicker than the original. I'm glad I did it.
