Sat in the back and reliced a strat today

Always wanted to try creating an old, beat-up looking strat. It was a nice day, so I brought the guitar with me to the backyard with some chisels, sandpaper and 0000 steel wool and began destroying it. :D

I think it turned out pretty well for my first attempt...the fretboard will look better once the bare wood parts start darkening from playing.

I love reliced strats... I'd need a humbucker in the bridge though...

Looks cool! My first guitar was a squier strat. I wanted to make it unique so I sanded the gloss off, lit it on fire, smashed it into a wall, played catch with it with my brother outside of the shop where I took lessons, took a hole-saw to the body and cut a nice 2 inch diameter circular chunk out of it, then I cut the upper horn off with a sawzall and stickered up the resulting mess.  Oh and i cut the pickguard and put a bucker in.

I still have it. I'll post pics eventually. I always said if I ever got famous, It'd be my sig model!

The stock pickups aren't bad, but nothing great. I'm thinking of putting in 3 Malmsteen singles. But might put a double in the bridge.

Cool! Fire never crossed my mind. :D

The new Chinese made Squires are great playing strats. One of the best playing strats I've ever played was a friend's 80's made in Japan Squier. It was really beat...it looked kind of like this reliced one...it was my inspiration trash this one.
Man it plays way better with most of the finish worn off of the back of the neck.

we use heat guns sometimes, they do very interesting things to a guitars finish... try it !

And now its worth seven times what you paid for it :D I like it

Go for it! Throw a JB in the bridge...

My first thought...

"sat in the back and reliced a strat"......."and then it turned into a ballroom blitz".

sorry, couldn't resist

In addition to the sandpaper, etc, a great trick is to take your keys and drop them on the guitar. . .it's a great way to create random dings and scrapes.

Why do i think you'll hate those pickups? They're great for high gain, but that's about it. And you're always a Nancy about your gain knob. :D ;)

More wear on the first few frets area of the fretboard. While you're at it, take a screwdriver and hammer divots in the frets on the first five - you want to show accurate string wear, right? :D

It is silly people will pay so much more for them...I mean it took me all of 2 whole hours....and I got to put the dings and fretwear where I wanted them. It was kinda fun.

could work... but i sat with a heat gun, left some cool burn marks and actually lifts or makes the finish bubble in a cool way... just be careful! its really cool though

If I did it would probably be a Duncan Custom Custom...always wanted to try one of those.

Hey now! Actually I was really careful around the frets and buffed them to a babies bottom shine.
