You did a better job on this one........

Those nicks were unintentional and each one saddened me...but look how far I've come now.Digital Jams":2mog6ybr said:You did a better job on this one........

When I bought it, I knew that one day I'd trash it, love those really worn looking strats...it just happened quicker than I thought.bsp01":3rz9l2pj said:I really don't get the whole "relic" thing... if they are genuine battle scars, dings, scrapes, etc.. then cool, more mojo, but to intentionally put them there? Are you talking to Randy or me? Because mine's a real relic, with 6 years of gig abuse.redrol":xodkb0k1 said:sorry that is not a good relic job.. no other way to put it

Kinda reminds me of my Nash:

I do too! I'll tell ya - Nash gets crap for not making his own parts, but this is the best setup/playing strat I've had and the Lollars are great pickups...70strathead":8bfdre0f said:i love this guitar!

I still like the soy sauce idea.Randy Van Sykes":y4ddz2bo said:Nice one Steve!sah5150":y4ddz2bo said:I do too! I see what you mean about the fretboard wear. It's also way too clean to look old right now. Lots of playing time and spilt beer will grunge it up nice. I might try working off a bit more finish from the fretboard so the whole neck starts getting that darkened look....sexy.![]()
That dropping a set of keys all over it idea was great...it has some nice dings all over it now.![]()

I did it...it darkened the new white looking wood a bit...the rest of the grunging will be out on gigs.sah5150":22iog2f4 said:I still like the soy sauce idea.

I think it turned out pretty well for my first attempt...the fretboard will look better once the bare wood parts start darkening from playing.
I dig it! Looks old to me.moltenmetalburn":z28od2i1 said:Randy Van Sykes":z28od2i1 said:Always wanted to try creating an old, beat-up looking strat. It was a nice day, so I brought the guitar with me to the backyard with some chisels, sandpaper and 0000 steel wool and began destroying it.![]()

I too like stuff that looks old a beat up and who wants to wait for thirty years to pass until it does?![]()
I like it it looks better than if it were brand new.
heres my lefty mutant RG.
Japanese body, japanese trem, newly replaced japanese J craft neck, MCP pickups and my own Relic process!
I used keys, hammers, wrenches , a knife, sandpaper a metal rod and tossed it around on the concrete like a beach ball.
I love her!![]()

I'm thinking of soaking the bare wood parts with soy sauce to darken them up...but I may get out-of-the-blue cravings for rice on stage.
I dig it...adjusted the truss rod and setup the intonation and she plays way better with the finish off the back of the neck. I would use this guitar alot now.Mailman1971":1ki43b75 said:It looks cool!!![]()
What I done....was have an old Jackson. And...its my only player.
I been rocking the shit out of it and well....just kinda tossing it around.
Not "BEATING ON IT" but not babying it either.
Tossing it in the stand between songs....playing it HARD......
its getting some kicks on it....but I think to get the 'natural' reliced it would take YEARS AND YEARS of hard playing unless you do it yourself.
your guitar is looking good my man!!![]()
If you do a "smoking hot" solo.....and I smell the soy sauce.....dont blame me when I come up after the show with some steamed rice and veggies....![]()
I'll try that too...maybe it'll cover the pee smell.bsp01":3sxs7xdp said:Randy Van Sykes":3sxs7xdp said:When I bought it, I knew that one day I'd trash it, love those really worn looking strats...it just happened quicker than I thought.bsp01":3sxs7xdp said:I really don't get the whole "relic" thing... if they are genuine battle scars, dings, scrapes, etc.. then cool, more mojo, but to intentionally put them there? Try diluted tea. I know some guys who've used that to darken wood.
