Saw the Panther again last weekend in ATL. On e again I was amazed at the level of talent in that group. Lots of fun too.

Satchel (Russ) was playing through his 5153 heads but did not see a miked cab. Wondering if he was hitting an iso cab. Anyone know? His tone was spot on to the record and sounded great. Any idea what his eq and gain levels are set at on the amp? He stayed in channel 3 for most parts and some in 2.

I'm not quite sure about his rig specifics, but this is an underrated guitar player if I ever saw one. He's a tight player, more knowledgeable than the average guitarists he's making a parody of, and sticking to his role like a champ when on or off the stage.

I'm not surprised he found a way to emulate his album tone spot on. I think he's much more knowledgeable about tone and recording techniques than his persona would let imagine.

he is definately an underrated player. fun as hell to watch, and great chops

He is a great player but IMHO he has actually always been highly respected. As I recall, He is a GIT grad and was featured in one or more of the "spotlight" type columns back in the say. 15 years ago, or so, There was a video floating around of him playing for a friend and doing spot on licks of various players such as Moore, Johnson and Gilbert. I think he came along just a year or two too late in the early 90's when the shredder scene was just too saturated and lost traction.

If you want to hear some great Russ Parrish leads and great heavy rhythms check out Halfords solo band "Fight." Their first CD is always in heavy rotation on my iPod.

check out this vid, pretty sure you can see how his heads are set up

Lots of guys run ISO cabs these days. I do have to say that live sound quality has seemed to improve over the past 5 years or so and I would be willing to guess that using ISO cabs and much lower stage volume is at least part of that equation.
