Saturated vs. Dry amp to run with the Mark V

Hey all, depending how things go for work this summer, I am thinking about possibly picking up a second head to run blended with my Mark V. I can't decide/tell if something super saturated sounding or something very dry sounding would mix better with it though.

Saturated amps I am considering:
Peavey 5150
Mesa Dual Rectifier
ENGL Fireball 60

and for dry stuff, Fryette is where its at:
Fryette Deliverance 60
Fryette Pitubull 50CL

What do you guys think? I have owned a 5150 before, and I can try out all the amps in my saturated list, but the trouble is those fryettes. The only dealer in the area hasn't had any in stock in forever.

Anyone?

I would've listed a Herbert too, but that is well out of my price range unless I win the lottery or something.

Well before you make the plunge into Fryette you need to come down and try my Ultra Lead. At least it would give you a good idea of Fryette/VHT voicing. I would not go with the Fireball unless it was the newer 100. Way to mid scooped and lacked volume/headroom to me ( at least Killzones did) My vote is too mix it with a Soldano Avenger and it will crush.

I'd vote for the Deliverance.
It will fill in all the mesa frequency voids and get a real tight sound.
You will cut through way better live also.

i hane all these amps and id have to say the mark blends great eith the fireball or the vht...but these two choices are very different from each other

Do you have a preference between those two? What sort of soundscape does each combo create?

You know what they say, if you're old enough to buy your own booze and you haven't made it, then.......

Hmm, that still gives me 5 years... maybe I can do it!

Not tryin to be an a*hole or anything, but at 16 years old, your rig as it is now, is more than adequate. ;)

If you do make any money this summer, how about trying to pay back your parents some for all the gear they have already bought you? Also, this dual amp rig will suck for you when you go to college. So yeah, go ahead and get an AxeFx now.

Jusssssssssss sayin... :D

Wow I suck at math, I am 17   That is true about it being more than adequate, I am becoming quite a gear whore. But my parents haven't boughten me any gear, I've paid for everything myself

the fireball i lke better because of how rich it is...whats real cool is to record left and right with the mark 5 the put the fireball up the middle...just an idea....the vht and mark 5 fill up perfect but it the difference is herd more in the fireball mix

This is something to keep in mind. I tried to run a Mark IV and a D120 together thru a stereo cab and the amps were out of phase with each other. To remedy this problem you would need to reverse the solder joints on ONE end of one of your speaker cables. If you do this be sure and mark it somehow...

A good thing about VHT amps, is that the Hi/Low gain switches flip the phase.
I had a few phase issues when I was running my UL and my VH4, but with a quick re-dial of my Gain and Hi/Low switches, everything came back into alignment.

I think a Tremoverb would fit like a glove. If you want something a bit drier....I'd personally stay away from the VHT, not because I don't like them but...because I feel the Mark and VHT have a lot of similar tonal qualities. I'd go with a Titan or Cobra.
