Saw Kings X on Saturday

Criminally underrated talent with those guys. Tight as all hell. I am not even that huge of a fan! Saw them years ago on the Dogman tour and they killed then also.

Ty was using the same Orange CR120 with two orange 4X12's that he has been dragging around for a while now. Had two strats on stage and only used one all night. Same simple board he has been using for a while with a Rook Royale OD, Boss tuner, some big Univibe box, Line 6 delay (the big green one) and maybe one other pedal? Can't remember.

Doug's voice is still hair standing on the back of your neck good and his playing was great. Jerry and Doug create a great pocket.

If they come to your town, go! Not nearly enough people there for a $20 ticket and the show was great.

I go see them every time they come here which has been many times. Great band!

Only 5 for me...but killer every time. Always loved Ty's tasteful playing, and a 3 piece with 3 part harmonies? Awesome. They will always be one of my favorite bands.

Shell of what they used to be. was at the same show. I've seen them countless times over the years in many different states. They are phoning it in at this point. Some songs with huge harmony parts (The world around me), not a harmony in sight, except for one part. Not one Ty lead vocal song? wow. For people who have just now got into them and or only seen a few shows recently, then I guess it's ok, but it's not what it was. yes i know the are old, but come on, they tune almost 2 steps down and still cant sing it? IMHO

That's two very different opinions of the same show. I used to say this back when it was athletically relevant, but who wants to watch Steve Kerr shoot the ball when Michael Jordan is on the court? That IMO applies to who wants to hear Ty Tabor sing when Doug Pinnick is standing on the same stage? Doug is one of the greatest rock singers of all time IMO and Ty... has a pretty good voice.

I haven't seen Kings X in 8 years probably so maybe they have dropped off this far.

I was a little bummed that they played basically the exact same set list as they did the last two times they were here. It was cool they played the Odeon though!

Doug let the crowd sing quite a bit. It seemed like he sort of had an off night.

I have to regretfully agree the current shows are not what they were when I saw them in the early years, but I will still whole heartedly support them. My memories with those guys span nearly 40 years. I saw them on every tour, some multiple times (Gretchen, Crumbs) all the way through Dogman. After that things dropped off slowly album by album. I still saw them when I could, but life was starting to really squeeze them
It is what it is.. Your old dog who you've had since he was a puppy comes to you with a grey face and licks you on the face..
You kiss him on the nose and love him more than you ever did in his prime.... He won't be there forever... There's absolutely nothing you can do to stop it

Any King's X is good King's X. The sound was monstrous... Doug's 12 string was bowel loosening...thankfully I had avoided any questionable food prior to the show.

In any event its probably good they didn't tease anything from the forthcoming album, this hopefully guarantees another tour sooner than later.

Yeah i still support them, have every cd, been to every concert within reasonable travel. I was helping my friend in one of the opening bands, so i was on ty's side of the stage standing next to his tech. Dug came out afterward and signed some stuff, Ty and Jerry disappeared. I dont understand why they wont sing the harmony parts, only a select few. I think it might be with how low they are tuning is messing with Ty's range, and it just doesnt sit right. Just guessing, but flat out not singing parts is phoning it in, the band was built off the power trio and all them singing... so lets not sing as much... what?

Some of Ty's songs are the best ones, sure with Dug there it's like Jordan, but come on.

I do get the feeling there wont be a lot more of these shows to go to in the future by just the vibe.

Mine, just out of the Army in '89, and living/going to school at the U of Mn in Mpls. I had heard "Over My Head" and thought it was ok....saw that they were playing at a local club in St Paul. Spanky's I think..wasn't very big. I went down and watched the show...they did "Gretchen" from beginning to end. I was blown away....went out and bought it and Out of the Silent Planet. From then on, caught them whenever they were around.
The Dogman show in 93, that was probably the best of all. Killer.

The best I've seen was probably a tie between Dayton at some bar by Second Time around with Galactic Cowboys, forget the year, or one time we were on vacation in Myrtle Beach and I saw a flyer for them playing at the Purple Gator in the record store window, walked in and bought tickets, talk about a coincidence

Both times the L5 was roaring in all it's glory and they crushed it hard. The Dayton gig was my first GC show, and they killed it. The Gator gig stood out to me because it was probably 50 people there, and we were sitting at a table right in front. Good times.

Nice. If I remember correctly Galactic Cowboys opened the Dogman show in 93. I think he was using a Dual Rec? I know a friend who owned a store here tried to take a look at Ty's rig, but his tech was all secretive lol...

Dug is in a class by himself, and they do complement each other very well. You have a few Ty tunes on Gretchen, and of course "It's Love" which was probably their biggest single if they really had any lol....most guys have no idea who they are.
I haven't seen them in a few yrs now, and if they are tuning way down it would be tough to do some of those Ty tunes...I remember seeing Whitesnake here about 6 yrs ago and I cringed at how low they were playing the songs..drop C maybe..ugh. But still cool with Aldrich and Reb, and of course Tommy Aldridge still doing his 'stickless' solo at 60+ yrs old.

I guess I am in the minority, but I think Dug has lost it. He used to sing, but now I don't know what to call it. He sounds like his voice is shot from using poor technique for decades. The harmonies are a massive part of King's X, and if they are not using them because they have to tune the songs lower so Dug can sing them, you are not getting the real King's X experience from my point of view. We all have our different perspectives, but I agree with the idea that they are a shell of what they used to be.

Where was that " huge fan since Dogman and Over My Head came out mid to late 80's.
