5 or so rows back yesterday at Church, nice surprise that Lincoln was leading things. He was playing his Road Worn custom gold strat and I have to say his tone was REALLY good. So much so that I had to venture up to the stage and check things out after the service. He was using a Line 6 POD X3 Live direct out to the PA. I have to say that I am seriously looking into one of these units now.

I know everyone is going to freak out and scream "it's to digital man" or "AxeFX will crush that thing". Yesterday the tone wasn't digital, it sounded very nice, warm and alive. The tone was there, the dynamics were there, etc.

I am thinking this thing might sound great in front of just about any amp, possibly even my DSL or XXX heads. And having that sort of versatility in one pedal board by my mic would kick ass!

Anyway, let the flaming begin.

If it sounds good to you then get one and screw around with it.

With a nice PA, board and outboard gear..going direct with POD's can sound amazing. The problem lies when people start putting them in front of amps with speakers voiced wrong for the modelers.

Lincoln Brewster is a MONSTER player! I am not that much into his "style" of music/songs (more a fan of Switchfoot-type stuff), but his playing and tone are awesome.

I believe there are youtube vids on his setup (the POD you mentioned). He has two - one for backup.

I also believe he is heavily involved in making his own patches with the unit. I want to say it's off of a Vox model, but not completely sure. I couldn't distinguish it from tubes when I heard it though...

I like the interface you can use with a POD when it's hooked up to a PC. It just takes a little tweaking to get rid of that Angry-swarm-of-bees tone.

I also think that a big full PA system pumping massive volume will also help something digital, where a digital direct device has issues is under close scrutiny of recording. I think for PA purposes, going direct, whatever you use, probally can have advantages over a mic'd cab. For one, most CD's that we listen to with killer tone from mic'd amps, generally have been multi-tracked to thicken up, and or placed in a good sounding room with good mics to help. Most of the single 57 mic'd tracks from a single speaker are not earth shattering you know. Getting a decent, clean sound direct going to PA is very clean.

Lincon is a great player and a real nice guy.

He came to the shop on Friday and demoed the Axe Fx. I think its safe to say that he will be playing the Axe Fx real soon. he was pretty floored by it

Aww man, not what I wanted to hear lol! I am desperately trying to come up with funds for one, and every time I get close something eats the funds up.

I'm thinking lincoln kills on any rig and you're right

when I saw him in concert it was tone city on that rig

those pod boards are pretty cheap and certainly give you the general color of the amps they mimic

but the effects don't hold a candle to the axe and that is where the investment for the axe pays the biggest dividends

I suspect many axe cats get intoxicated by the fx quality mixed with the models

wonder what the pod models with axe effects would do to people?

IMHO having used both a POD an an Axe-fx there is WAY MORE going on with the models of the AXE then the POD. I can play the AXE-FX models BONE DRY and get a great sound and killer dynamics... The POD or should I say the older PODS ive use...never in a million freaking years.

Id also like to add that Im not a POD snob. I used a Flextone for 2 years in a coverband but the axe is light years ahead in EVERY way IMHO.

There are great tones in the POD..Don't get me wrong but the AXE rains supreme for me.

all IMHO of course.
