Saw STP last night (I'm in love with Dean Deleo's tone)

I saw STP last night in Tampa and thought Deleo's tone was great. (Weiland's performance was another story) I could see that Dean had VHT power amps in both racks but couln't see what else he was using.

This thread answered all my questions.

Dean is one of favorite players. His tone on Purple and Tiny Music is incredible IMO, and I would kill to have that sound at home. If anyone has any ideas on how to get it on the cheap, please let me know!

Here's his rack from the recent tour

Dave had just tuned up his rack about a month or so ago. It was demeter/vht for sure. Whether that's what he played last night, ?

As far as I know, his rig is the rack I posted above, a Demeter TGA-3 Pre-Amp into a VHT Classic Power-Amp, with an Intelliverb for effects. If my information is correct, he splits this rig into a Vox AC30 using his old BOSS CS-2 Chorus pedal. It's used only to split his signal, as all of his effects come from the Intelliverb.

It was like grunge meets Led Zeppelin. Killer stuff.

I love STP but Led Zeppelin sucks and always have sucked. They were nothing but musical plagiarists and ripped off many original “real” musical artists.

Now these LZ hacks have nothing more to do than cleaning their dentures.

To the OP...

STP's been a huge influence to me musically and emotionally throughout the years - I've loved their music from the very first time I heard their first release. Loved it. Still love it. It's one of the Top5 in my iPod mix at any time. And one thing is for certain, I've always admired and totally dug (digged??) Dean's tone - he gets these awesome punchy piano clear solo notes with a bit of compression; then these awesome barking runs; to these amazingly textured power chords.... Ya, their tone and songs are legend.

Glad you enjoyed the show - totally stoked... I'm a bit pissed as they're coming here to my area when I'm out of town on a surf trip. Seems I always go away this time of year, and all the greats come to town

Least the surf is kickin'

Thanks for the post!! LOVE STP!!! :rawk:

I heard that they just cancelled a bunch of dates because Scott is back on the juice. I heard a clip of a radio interview with him recently and he was way out there.

FAAAAAK!!! Man, if he could just clean it up, so much there talent wise, but he's always going back to the spoon... I feel for the bugger, but man, how many times do you get a warning ya know?

I hope this isn't true, but unfortunately, I'd not find it at all surprising.

I have always dug Dean's tone. He is a damn good guitarist/musician/performer. That rig of his covers a hell of a lot of ground. He's not flashy, not a fret wanker - but just sits back and churns out a consistent, well balanced, melody for the bands with some really cool riffs in between. His live tone is difficult to emulate. Probably one of my favorite guitarists, along with Cantrell and a couple others.

Is he drinking, or on heroin again?

It sounds like H again. I heard the audio clip on a local station in town that was replaying it from a station in Florida I believe. I have not done any searching to verify but my local station said that Scott has started missing some dates here and there and now they have cancelled some more.

I couldn't help but listen to the cowhead interview... Seems he was on the brown, I mean, he wasn't sloppy and slurring which the bottle will do - he sounded pretty gone though. Damn it. I hope I'm wrong man, that guy's got a lot to offer...

To the OP - how was Scott's performance on stage? Can ya tell us a bit about what was going on?

Thanks!

STP's songwriting, musicianship & tone is a goal I would like to achieve.

I don’t have anything interesting to report (like when I saw Vince Neil fall off of the stage into the first row). Scott just lacked energy and didn’t seem to put much effort into the show. When I saw STP last time, and when I saw Velvet Revolver, I thought Scott was a good front man. He was full of energy and seemed to put a lot into his performance. This time, not so much.
