wow.. that only took what 8-9 posts....

amazing, people resort to 3rd grade schoolyard bullshit.

No.
Yngwie is an amazing guitarist, but an arrogant asshole. The only thing bigger than his wall of Marshalls is his ego.
He would be a great replacement for Satchel in Steel Panther if he breaks his arm. The only problem, that his stage moves and persona are not for being funny. (That's maybe a dealbreaker :) )
His Trilogy and Odessey era things were amazing, but the last 5-6 CDs, are just boring.

Damn!!! I have not seen him since 85 with Jeff Scott Soto!!! Great show with Billy Sheehan and Talas warming up!!
I saw him on this same tour in Seattle! He was great, but I was already very familiar with what he did. Billy Sheehan was the big surprise for me that night! I'd never heard of him, and he comes out and just tears it up! Good to see both still at the top of their game today!

House of Blues Hollywood may 10th! cant wait! Birthday so I'm getting shitty faced...

I saw Yngwie at least 5 or 6 times over the years, first time was the Trilogy tour. i have to say this is the best I heard him play. I love the fact that he improvises all the time, and this tour his ideas are a lot more cohesive and musical. When i saw him with the G3 tour, it was a dissapointment, a lot of rambling. So, really recommend that you guys catch this tour, he's in fine form this time.

Just saw this clip of the show, not great quality, but you guys can get an idea:

Piercing treble, must be the 'new' Seymour Duncan Fury pickups, though stacked humbuckers in single coil form, these are a change from Yngwie's previous use of DiMarzio's.
He used an HS-3 in the bridge, middle pick up not connected and neck a SD YJM with vintage magnet stagger.
I had a 2004 YJM Strat I ordered from the factory and the bridge pickup was not like that at all.
Apparently Yngwie doesn't use the built in DOD 250/YJM 308 circuit in his new amps at all. Not sure if he runs them in the 50 watt mode, but I feel his trusty Marshall MKII 50 watt heads are still being used..
A huge fan of Yngwie since the eighties, his recording tone has been way too compressed for some time.
When I saw him in Tuscon and met him as well, in 2005 his live tone killed and at sound check it was the best I had ever heard as they did Deep Purple tunes and Cherokee Warrior was the best version I have ever heard.

My friend who saw him is also my drummer. Guy has over 100 concerts under his belt. Lives for them.
Think he saw Yngwie at least 6 times thru the years.
It was in a small hall...and when I asked if Yngwie was ripping it up or simply going thru the motions....
he said Yngwie was ON FIRE!
Playing that small venue like a massive arena. Guess he was in the zone and just bringing it.

I saw him in 1985. Didnt know who Yngwie was and the mix was so horrible it was distorted and just LOUD.
But I went for the AC/DC show. :D

I saw him on that tour too, I can remember being in the bathroom and hearing a really hammered guy saying "That guy sucked, Angus is gonna blow his doors off"
Angus had a great night..... but.. no

Actually, I thought the Duncan PU's have more output with a chunkier bridge PU than the DiMarzios. I owned both versions. His piercing treble is simply him using a DOD into the Marshall's Treble channel only. It's all treble and high mids unless you bridge the channels

As if Yngwie was ever the only arrogent asshole in rock. LOL
My personal opinion is the guy, though insanely talented never really moved on. It's the same 80's metal horseshit, clothes and stage moves. 50 years old for Christ sake. Reminds me of the fat Elvis era.

Agreed. His live tone last Friday was probably the best live tone I heard from him. Problem is it's just too fuckin' loud with that piercing treble.
You're right about the Marshall, he does run them in 50-watt mode, never used the built in DOD, but from his DOD pedal.
I never compared the HS-3 to the Duncan Fury, so I'm not sure which is better. But the Fury does have a lot of definition and clarity, especially in the neck.

I've been an Yngwie fanboi/wannabee since I first heard "Black Star" on the square plastic record that came in Guitar Player magazine.

Saw him play in some club's basement in Milwaukee in support of the Seventh Sign tour. Loud as fuck!! and bitching the whole night at the sound guy.
(Had lunch in the booth next to the rest of the band before the show. I think it was Hardee's or something. They didn't speak too highly of him.)

Lost interest in him around the Alchemy disc, though. Too repetitive.
Very glad to hear he's getting back in form.

It's Yngwie. Either you like him or you don't. I see this all the time in threads about him-he does the same shit all the time...so do AC/DC and everybody else. It's called their style. Bands that do make a departure from the norm, usually results in people constantly bitching about it until the day they go back to their old style.

For all the folks who rag on YJM's tone, you realize he's a lead guitarist and guitar is middle/upper register instrument right? That you EQ yourself in the band mix and not your basement?

Bass = low notes
Guitar = high notes

Class dismissed.

Derek

I seen him on the perpetual flame tour in a tiny club in PA with a very small crowd. He and Ripper joked about it and played like the show was at a big arena. I loved it.

Would definitely like to see him again.

Who is the singer in the band now for the shows?

Is it really important whether YJM is fat?
Who cares!?

Warren Haynes is fat.Michael Romeo is fat. Lotsa people are fat. Big deal.

it's mostly the old crusty blooze/classic rock crowd that never liked anything post Zappa and/or cannot play malmsteen that jump into this thread to criticize.... never moved on? with a dead guy from the 60's avatar?

That's pretty funny. Yeah, he never moved on, at all. I guess as long as there is an audience digging a 50 year old guy dressed like a pirate, all is well.

So, the blues/ classic rock genre is crusty, but what he's doing isn't? LOL

The "dead guy" did more in 3 years than anybody else has in 3 decades

Yngwie is an amazing talent.
If you would remove Yngwie's hair, you would clearly see, that there is a dick screwed on his neckjoint.
Beside of these facts, if anyone likes his music, fine with me, whatever sails your ship.
But please don't tell me if I fall asleep after 5 minutes of his wankery or not.
