I'm not a big fan of his Music but he is an Amazing Guitarist IMO.

I saw a Video of him at 18 , 19 years of age and he was already an Amazing Guitarist IMO..

I actually preferred that style musically, but that's just me.

I'm glad he's made a lot of money and he has a niche musically, and is a true Virtuoso, much like a Classical Violinist.

His Bach stuff is.very.very cool.

I find his Ego and Honesty refreshing, he doesn't pretend to be Humble.

Whether you like him or his music or not the Guy is flat out absolutely Great at what he does.

Icon.

I was a young pup when Yngwie first hit the scene in the early-mid 80s. I remember reading interviews with him in GFTPM and Guitar World and thinking "Who the hell is this brash young guy? There's NO way he's as good as he acts like he is". I was heavy into Randy Rhoads, Akira Takasaki, and Uli Roth at the time. Anyways... my brother brought home Yngwie's first "Rising Force" album one day in '85 and I was just stunned. I immediately forgot about everyone else and just soaked-up his stuff like a sponge for the next couple of years. I still have the very first album that he did stateside with Steeler (Ron Keel on vocals) that he did when he was 19 ("Hot On Your Heels" was the most amazing thing I'd ever heard a 19 year old do BY FAR in those days). I've also got his Alcatrazz and solo albums from those early years as well. The guy was just mind-blowing back in the day. I learned to deal with his big head, and now I even kind of dig it. He's not nearly as bad as he was back then, and I dig the fact that he's anything but politically-correct or pussified when it comes to social situations. He's always been true to himself and it's hard for me not to like him for it. I haven't dug his last several albums, and I've preferred more melodic bands/artists for many years now. but Yngwie will forever be my personal "guitar god" and were it not for him, I don't know if I'd have ever upped my chops to be able to play the stuff I've been playing all these years (classical, flamenco, country ala Brad Paisley, etc). I will be forever a fan.

I too saw him on the '85 tour with AC/DC, and in 84 I think at a Day on the Green with Scorpions maybe? He was awesome both times. He is playing here in San Fran, debating weather to go. Guess I will definitely be packing the ear plugs.

Yngwie is a guitar god...arrogant or not. he can back up what he says, and he loves to play and brings it at all times. he makes a nice living doing what he loves to do...wish i could! so yea, i partly hate him because i want to make a living playing guitar, but hey...its ok. he kicks ass, and i love his playing. sure, i dont listen to him 100% of the time, but hes awesome, i love his work, and id love to see him kill it live. hes a legend...pure and simple.

I have a couple Yngwie albums, haven't listened to him in a while, but like his tone, and of course the vintage white strat. Some stuff in these pics are pretty funny;

- As mentioned before, drummer not even in the middle of the stage because the Marshall wall is so big (way too many amps look like they're not dummies actually)
- Having to write down "Hello" on the setlist so you don't forget to talk to the crowd
- Parking your rockstar Ferrari in a regular parking space (I'd pay money for a picture of that car parked at a Krispy Kreme location :D )

I saw him At Revolution Live in FT. Lauderdale in 2011, he totally killed and of course loud as hell. Had 36 freaking heads both vintage and YJM Sigs and 18 cabs. He ran out of two YJM heads that he had on the end of his stacks in to two 4x12's . Ripper Owens was singing for him also. All around Killer show. It was the last date on the tour too, so he unloaded his Ferrari Red Bus (go figure) and all the all the Marshall's and cabinets and loaded them up stacked three high across the back of a U Haul truck. Not a single head was a dummy either they all had tubes in them. After the Truck was loaded up he came out with his wife and got in his Ferrari 360 threw his guitar in the passenger seat and his wife got in a Mercedes SL and with a Police escort they all drove off. Only in Miami !! Pretty damn cool all around.

Here is his Ferrari with the U-haul and Red Prevost in the background.

Going to See him again May 26th in Ft. Lauderdale.

if i had that many marshalls/cabs and a Ferrari...damn right id be egotistical and hook them all up/park in a normal parking space!

actually...yea yea, i would. ive played through my single recto and ultra plus at the same time...that sounded awesome. i can only imagine 50 marshalls/cabs going all at once. and a Ferrari? would love to have one. but i have a Ninja...which is fast enough and probably equally as much fun to ride as a Ferrari is to drive.

He has a bit of an ego; many guitarists do.
Most of the big ego accusations started with a Guitar World interview that was very much tongue-in-cheek. He was having a few beers with the interviewer and goofing off. Does anyone really believe that Yngwie didn't know who Jeff Beck was, and considered him a hack?

The guy is a phenomenal player. His vibrato and bend control are damn near unrivaled.

I put a lot of miles on my ZX-6 Ninja (11K one year, which is a LOT for riding in Montana). And as cool as that was... it was NOTHING like sitting in the driver's seat of my friend's Ferrari Italia 458. Not even close... :D

Agree that Yngwie is a legend. I don't listen to his albums anymore just because I find instrumental stuff a bit boring these days. But his talent is incredible. Saw him live not too long ago and he was flawless. Would definitely go see him live again. Great performer. What might seems a bit boring over the stereo is jaw dropping when he's doing it right in front of you for a whole set.

I'm guessing every sound man who's ever worked a Yngwie show, from arenas to clubs, took one look at his rig and said, " Nope, don't think we'll need to mike the guitar."

In the immortal words of the man himself, "How can less be more? It's impossible. MORE is more."

See:the pics on this page.

Yngwie is the last of the rock stars. He was pimp when it was cool, stayed pimp when it was uncool, and by sheer force of personality made it cool again.
