Schecter SLS Elite Floyd Rose Replacement???

I want to throw a better Floyd on my SLS Elite. If I buy a "real" Floyd, do I need to be concerned with shims/not shimming saddles to accommodate the 12-16" compound radius neck? Maybe its much about nothing, but I understand they're designed for 10" radius, out of the box. Is it that big of a deal??
 
Yes, you will want to shim it but the shims are cheap and there’s plenty of vids. If you don’t have a set of radius gauges look at Philadelphia Luthier Supply. It’s not a hard thing to do.

This 1500 on it now doesn't seem to have any shims of any kind at all?
 
Hmmm. I may be wrong. I’ve always shimmed accordingly. You can’t lose with going OFR and putting it on. If it doesn’t feel right shim it. What don’t you like about the current Floyd though?
 
Well, if the slight radius mismatch doesn´t bother you now then I don´t think you need to be concerned with shimming the new Floyd either. A Floyd is 12" with no shims, I believe. I´m actually not sure how common it is to have factory-shimmed saddles at all, but it can definitely be a thing to really fine tune the set-up.

I think an actual German is 10". However, I'm beginning to think the 1000 series may be 12". I changed saddles on a Jackson Soloist that had a 1000 series, no shims. The new set came numbered, which leads me to believe they are height compensated, (which may be the case anyway, you could tell they were). At any rate, I found a full 1000 series saddle set for $55, so we'll roll with it.
 
All the Floyds are 10" with the long factory shim beneath the middle four saddles that you still see sometimes, I actually forgot that they do that, and 12" when there´s no shims at all. The nut is normally 10" though. And yes, the saddles on all Floyd versions are of three different heights since the baseplate is flat, barring the rare Kahler Steeler and such. The 1000 saddles will be exactly the same that is on there now.

What are you looking to do here, by the way, are the saddles worn out on the stock Floyd? Since you are buying another set of the exact same saddles, I mean, as far as I know the 1500 is the 1000 but with some stainless screws.

I had a couple that were a bitch to tighten down the string block screws from day one new. They were unusually tight, like someone cross-threaded them putting it together. This is the "Hot Rodded" 1500 with SS screws and such. One got so tight it stripped the hex...

So, I got USA made SS screws to change them all. I managed to get the stripped one out, but the other bitch one snapped inside the saddle, so it's basically screwed. Finding one high E saddle proved to be a challenge, but when I did, they were 20+, and I found a whole set for $55, and just decided to change them all, new SS screws, and upgraded saddle blocks. I was ready to just buy a better Floyd, but it's not really necessary.
 
I see, that seems like a good plan. But yeah, you might as well consider getting some individual saddle shims anyway and see if you like it a smidge flatter even if it isn´t really necessary.

Well, knowing the Jackson Soloist that had a 1000-series, and changing those saddles that had no shims, I'll assume the same here. Both have compound 12-16" radius necks.

I want it to be 100%, as there's a MIJ blond Soloist I really want, and wanted to sell the Schecter. I don't want to sell it with any issues, I don't roll that way.

It’s really 12 out of box as to get 10 is has shims on the inner saddlers. I haven’t gotten any in the last 8 years that had the pre-installed shims. I’ve measured and they’re always 12. I can tell you that Charvel doesn’t shim theirs on their pro mods and the are compound to 16 and people don’t seem to complain.

Yep, I believe the 1000 series with no shims is standard, and I'm finding this to be the case with Charvel, Jackson, and Schecter, (or any other guitar with a 12-16 radius). Also, it seems you can't buy a 1000 series Floyd complete, as its proprietary to the guitar manufacturers. On Floyd's sight, it says the only one you can buy, is "burnt chrome". But, you can get parts.

If your not set on the cloud name, the Gotoh 1996 is a superior bridge and can mount on Floyd bushings. They’re about $100
