I have heard a few in the past. But after hearing the Lickliter Peavey mod and the Fortin KK mod I am stunned.

Was just curious of what these mods are doing exactly.

I know there are different types of mods, fizz mod, bias mods, can add loops and depth ect,,,,

But what else is out there?

Have been thinking maybe I should sent my VHT in somewhere to get it a little better, just not sure what I would want to do to it. The only thing I can think of is to make the boost actually boost it a little more.....What do you all think?

One of the first things you should have is a tone in your head. Then try to figure out a way to describe it. Is it bright? Super saturated? Loose? Percussive? Chewy(this one is tossed around alot)? Dark? Fizzy? ect. Is the amp you have close to the sound in your head? Is it even in the same ball park?  Seriously, If the tone in your head sounds just like a 5150 and you have a Rectifier it would probably be a lot easier and cheaper to just get a 5150. But if the amp you have is close but just needs a little more this or a little less that, then getting your amp modded might be the thing to do. Of course a pedal or two such as a clean boost and/eq could possibly get you there too. If you decide to go with a modification of some sort, you'll need to talk to the person that you choose. You will have to describe what you are hoping to get out of it and what you don't want to lose. Luckily there are several people on this forum that do modifications. FJA, BFG, Cameron :D JK, Voodoo, Lickliter, Rockstah, Surreal( i think). They pretty much all have great clips and very happy customers. I'm not sure who actually does mods on VHT amps though. Hope this helps a little.

Just know that if you modify an amplifier you had better hope to hang onto it. Modified amplifiers are considerably harder to sell on the open market because you do limit the market to people with similar tastes, if someone loves the sound of 5150's stock but thinks the modifications sound terrible then you've limited your customer base considerably.

This is also a good point to mention costs and labor plus wait times. if you are one person to want something done yesterday then it might be best to hold back and look at other amplifiers/pedals/speakers that could get you there instead. All depends on who is doing the work, but just because you get it modified does not mean you'll love it when you get it back. I cannot count how many amplifiers people have sent off and then sold 2 weeks later because they decide to downsize - basically the mod is not for them and there is no refund policy.

    Yup. Pretty common.

good points, i suppose i need to finalize my cab and pedal setup before i look into this further.

The only disappointment with my amp is the lead boost is not very noticable to me. would like to more present. Probable not worth sending it in. At first i was thinking of tone, but like you said maybe need a different amp if thats what I really want. Sorry for the useless thread. I didnt use search btw :( After I heard the lickliter clip I got a boner and wanted to mod my amp.
