This is what I'm going for in terms of tone. I know he uses a '78 1987 with pedals to kick the rest of the grind.

Thats a Nova System or a G/System with a Nova Drive. I use more or less the same rig: Strat-Nova System for overdrive/dist/effects-Marshall SLP 100 with 2tubes pulled,Channels jumped,chan1 at 11 o'clock,chan 2 at 3 o'clock. Nova System output at -33 to keep volume at gig levels-Marshall 4x12 cab with 2x15 speakers in it.Sounds fantastic.

While the Suhr amp sounds killer (what amp doesn't Pete make sound killer?!!?) I can get a 1987x for less than half of the price. And the bottom line is that while my amps would have different logos if I could afford it, I have to be realistic about my budget.

I used to have a 1959 and used SD-1 ,Tube Screamer, Rat and Echoplex back in the day. I have permanent tinnitus because of that amp. Moved away from it in mid 80's to Hiwatt 50 set clean ala Gilmore. If I had the room I would love to have that '59 back and an attenuator for hard rock awesome amp. Now I have been rocking the 5150III 50 watt much better for the non gigging basement player than the '59. Try the '87 with pedals and an attenuator you may love it. Back when I had the '59 there was no such thing as attenuator. The 4 channel PA system was for the drums and singer. Who needs a PA I have a full stack dammit. I still hear the ringing 35 years later when there is no background noise.

have a really old 59 circuit but with super tremelo which I deactivated. Will knock the paint of the walls running wide open. Use an Alex attenuator and the sound is wonderful, nothing like it. Get an attenuator if you like that sound. Personally I don't like most of the MV circuits as they screw with the signal and compress too much in my view, nothing like getting the power tubes barking a bit.

Funny story, back in the 70's I had an opportunity to buy one of those 200w Marshall majors. Plugged in turned it to 1-2 and I pulled the cable back out and thought "I'm not Ritchie Blackmore".
