Hey guys

I have a fender strat that I never play because I just cant get along with the neck

I did have a Charvel Pro Mod in the past that I liked the feel of the neck, but I eventually moved it along.

Who makes the best charvel style replacement necks?

I basically want to unbolt the current neck, and slap on the new one.

What specs do I need to order to get me close to the Pro Mod style necks?

thanks

PS

post pics of your guitars with these necks if you would!

Another vote for Musikraft. You'll probably need a 2 3/16" heel with the Fender body, unlike typical Charvel necks that are 2 1/4". Measure to be sure. I think the neck radius on the Charvel pro mods is compound 12"-16", but you would be fine with straight 12" if you're looking to save $$. 6100 Frets. Tung oil finish.

Well they're very pricey, but I have a Luxxtone on a super strat, and it is the best neck I've ever played.

wow.

i will check musickraft.

does luxxtone even sell their necks separate?

i like the overall contour of the promods, but some how it just felt cheap, like it was made out of balsa wood. I must be crazy!

I haven't played a PM so I don't know how the necks feel but most of the once I've seen have super light colored maple.

Yeah like I said, I have a luxxtone neck on one of my guitars...at least as of a year ago, they were selling their necks separately.

I can vouch for Musikraft as well...I have 8 or 9 of their necks. I ordered most of them to my specs to look like Charvel but with different profiles, premium birdseye and flame as well as a beefier neck.

Since you like the ProMod necks you always buy one that was parted out on eBay.

Wow, that's a nice collection!

Mine was really light coloured when i got it new... But it got dark and dirty looking in next to no time :)

Anything vote for Musikraft. I love their necks. I also have a USACG neck that is great. Both have great quality and customer service. I like the look of my USACG neck better, but I supplied the wood, than my Musikraft buy I like the backshape better.

Here is my guitar I put together:
Musikraft neck
Charvel body
Floyd Rose
Aldrich Pickups

It's not just you. I've tried to like the new Charvel's but aside from the neck, everything just feels cheap.

I recently bought a Warmoth neck for one of my teles - ended up with a gibson scale, '59 profile (fat neck), jumbo stainless steel frets, compound radius... thing plays as well or better than my Charvels and was fairly cheap - around $200 out the door for maple/maple. Guy in one of my bands recently replaced a strat neck with a Warmoth - same experience, great product and great price. Not saying musikraft isn't awesome, or USACG, but you might want to consider warmoth too. It's also quality stuff and before too long I'm going to build a strat with all Warmoth parts.

cool tele build Pete. I bet I'd like that profile as I like the gibby 50's neck profile.

I also have a M/M warmoth strat head neck with ebony cross inlays...baseball fat profile and is a good neck, not too keen on the side truss rod access though.

The side truss rod thing is a little weird - I set mine up with the 'main' truss rod in the heel really close and then used the side to fine tune it. So far it works pretty well. Doesn't bug me now, but at first it was really weird. They should make a plug that covers it up.

Resurrecting an old thread here, but I'm in a dire need of a new neck to my '88/'89 Charvel 3DR and I'm really confused about the thickness of the neck... can I just order a neck from Musikraft and it'll fit into the "Dinky type" neck pocket in my 3DR or what's the dealio?
