Your amp does sound great in James' shootout. Best in that video with the exception of the Friedmans.

....and a loud pop when footswitching channels.

That doesn't seem to stop anyone from buying a 5150 III.

No offense, but in person it was COMPLETELY different.

I have played/recorded/compared most of the "boutique Marshallesque" heads (Cameron, Friedman, Cerriatone, Splawn, ect), and I believe that the Wizard Modern Classic and the Cameron CCV are absolutely at the top of their class for this variety of amplifier. A great example of the Wizard high gain capabilities can be heard all over Metallica's "Garage Inc" record. (listen to Astronomy or Turn the Page). Simply put, it is my all time favorite "Marshall" amplifier and is nearly unmatched. Just my opinion.

Super trebly in the room; one thing I noticed when watching the clips was that the amps that were WAY bright in the room, didn't seem to translate to tape....I dunno....could have been the mic or the cab...or whatever...but that seemed to be a recurring theme.

For the record, I don't have anything against Wizards...they're just loud as hell, and a bit too bright, for me.

What? :D

My Wizard MC has a depth mod, so talking out my ass maybe, but it's flatout one ass kicking amp! Little bright which i like, but unlike most bright amps it will blow your balls off bass! The gain is so much more clear and cutting than the masses of compressed doo doo machines!

I would listen to Erocks Wizard metal clip to make any decisions or hit up Greazygeo since he has been playing and not flipping wizards for years.

Erocks clip is retarded, one of the best clips out there.

His clips are boosted with a BB Preamp but they definitely sound good.

Rick got his popping issues sorted. There is absolutely no pop for channel changing in this new MTL or for switching the Lead Gain or switching the Saturation in/out. Rick turns out a differently voiced amp than most are used to. They project, cut and are in your face. I wish I would have got him to throw an FX loop in the MTL he built for me.

Thats one issue I have with the Wizard stuff. At this price point it should have an FX loop standard. He doesn't like loops and I can understand that, but alot do. Mine had one. :)

My old Metal didn't pop at all when changing channels. It had a different relay than what is in my MC. I can roll my distortion channel up and down for clean, so its not an issue for me. It's not that loud anyway.

I may be the only owner of that amp that liked it.

I didn't like it at first, then found that it had a pull pot that unleashed 80s metal gain and saturation. Without that it is basically like the Wizard vintage amp. It had the best low volume metal tones I’ve ever gotten, and definitely not overly bright.

I later picked up an MC, and found that overly bright. Go figure. Probably needed a better cab match.

So has the Slaughter amp been modded now?
