Screw the Overdrives, Back to cable straight to amp baby!

I got no problem with boosts or overdrives, but I count myself lucky that I found an amp that produces the tones I want without them.

I agree. If you're going to use an amp, and need to pedals to get the sound you want, then you're using the wrong amp. I've always plugged straight in, never anything in front, and just a delay pedal in the loop.

Well, considering that most tones ,at least here, that people like from artist are boosted that's a hard sell. I like my amps alone too, but "etra" good tones with boost.

The 80's are over, and amp technology has advanced beyond a shit smelling distortion pedal. OHH..

Somebody should tell Bogner, Suhr, Wampler, etc that make, and sell quite a few, distortion pedals

Yep, I did away with OD's and boosts around '85-86 when I acquired my first MV amp.

AHAHAHah.. Most people need a stomp box to crutch their playing. And old players that still use one haven't upgraded their gear. Or, you're just old and can only hump a combo around and use your horseshit pedal board littered with the flavor of the month buzz box to get your dirt sound.. At this point I'm not making friends. :D

Needless to say, most players still use them, and sensible businessmen with a name will take advantage of this market even tho there were killer designs like the Boogie Marks that, well kill... Because the truth is that no flat, pasty sounding pedal will have the definition and clarity or a straight in sound.

This is why EVH is the king, because he didn't use pedals, and got what most corksniffers that browbeat this board, is the best guitar tone of all time on his early records. But even he moved on with s 5150. Who the fuck needs a stomp box with a 5150? You just suck.. Go play some drop-D phrygian metal riffs.

Can we still be pals?

So, the variacs and EP delay boost don't count? Most players will add a boost because they can't do that, or can't dime the MV at the gig. I don't like distortion or overdrive pedals, but love a clean boost.

Always pals, more than one way to skin a cat.

P.S. the '80s rule

I have to agree with this. Versatility in an amp is extremely available these days. Putting a distortion pedal in front of your amp, especially a tube amp is just ruining the sound. I always used to see kids buying these monster high gain tube amps (Mesa, Marshall, Crate BV's), and then run these stupid distortion pedals through them. If you can't get a good distortion sound straight out of those amps, then you don't know how to dial them in, or are clueless about sound.

I like direct to amp most of the time. I did just purchase a TS9 to try out with my new Bogner and while I don't use it alot, I do like what it adds as a "Boost" when I need it. It *does* tighten things up for when I want to go all tight and gainy and play metallica tunes.

+1 for no longer needing OD once using fine amp. I used a Bad Monkey with my DSL100. I eventually replaced it with a BBE Boosta Grande, which I still have. I don't boost the input of my current amp because it just isn't necessary. Now I use it in my FX loop after my delay to compensate for it's drop in volume. Occasionally I'll run just the BBE to tighten up the gain when I'm playing at low volumes while the kids sleep.

I doubt the playing would be good anyway Shitty troll is shitty. EVH also used a phaser/flanger and all sorts of shit. To say he didn't use pedals at all is retarded.

Not sure what he used, but a phaser and flanger is one thing. These are modulation effects. Using a pedal to create distortion instead of using your high gain tube amp (as an example) is another.

Nothing wrong with overdrives or any other effects, just another tool in the toolbox.

Ive never played one overdrive pedal that didnt screw with the bandwidth. once it goes through those magic chippies, its done, tone over.
