No. They made both T1281 55hz G12H30 and T1217 75hz G12H30 16 ohm speakers all the way through 1979. 8 ohm models were T1234 for 75hz and T1460 for 55hz (ultra rare).

If you have the History of Marshall book they have a listing of a bunch of Txxxx and date codes in there to identify these, but you have to know speaker cone codes and other neat stuff as well.

Sorry, I know a few people named George, so I'm not sure which one you're talking about.
