I've got a Forte 3D S/V on the way and want to try different speakers. I play the EVH 5153 50w.

I have the Scumback H55/BH75 65watt in a vertical semi-open back cab right now and I love them. Much better than the G12H30's that were in there before, which got really harsh at high gain gig volumes.

I've got a Hellatone 60L and Reaper HP as well, so I want to mix and match, BUT, I don't really have the time to do that before my show.

In the cab I have now, the H55 is on bottom and BH75 on top; I think it sounds good this way.

Am I right to think to put the Reaper HP on the bottom and Hellatone 60L on the top? As I understand it, the 60L is the Celestion's made for the Marshall Mode 4 cabs, which is a V30, but with a deeper bass response and less harsh mid spike.

Could I mix the Scumbacks with the Reaper and Hellatone with good results? ...I know, I know, I need to just try it, but again, I really don't have time to try mixing.

Thoughts? Thanks!

I just looked up the Reaper HP & its efficiency is listed as 99 db. You are correct regarding the data on the Hellatone 60L but its a 100 db efficiency speaker, so you should put those on the bottom since it'll be slightly louder.

this may be a bit far from your actual speaker models, but i tested a WGS British Lead (their Classic Lead 80) clone in a 2x12 alongside a real CL80 and an H30 Anniversary. the WGS was a noticeable notch lower in loudness. which makes sense with the db efficiency ratings for other WGS and Celestions posted above.

i love the Hellatone 60Ls, but i've never mixed them.

the main problem for me was a subtle but raspy comb-filtering spike that i got, in all combinations of WGS + Celestion. hopefully you won't get that.

You are the first person I have seen that has a blackback H75. I am thinking of getting one for an opened back 112 cab. Have you tried just the blackback H75 by itself or could you compare it to an H55. I have a standard H75, so I know how that sounds.

Also I typically don't see people mixing WGS with celestions, not sure why, but I just don't see that mentioned much.

I really like the Blackback H75. I told Jim what all I play and he recommended it. It DEFINITELY cuts and he'll probably be mad if I say this, but it has the 'cut' of a V30, but it is much more controllable. Then again, my amps EQ is very wide ranging, so it works great. I love the amp and this speaker.

What about mixing the Scumbacks with either the Hellatone or the WGS?
