I know there are a lot of mods out there for the SD-1. I decided to do the easiest one.
I removed the C6 after reading some reviews stating it would make the pedal more transparent and "open" sounding. I guess most of those users used the pedal as a stand alone OD box, but I use my only for boosting. I tried it anyway.

I found it did clear up the somewhat cloudy tone the pedal has when boosting. It also seems to have reduced some output, thus making the pedal quieter when boosting. I raised the gain a bit and that makes up for the output, only it doesn't mud up the tone. Doing that just adds some thickness and edge. It sure wouldn't react like that before.
It may have reduced some lows, but it could also be the change in the pedals treble giving that perception. I do like that the high end is less artificial sounding though. I never liked the treble freq that the SD-1 added to my tone. Now it's much more pleasing.

So now my SD-1 has the smoothness and natural feel of an OCD and the bite and articulation of an 808.
The mod is easily reversible, so give it a shot and hear the results for yourself.

I tried it, it's alright. That component is just a high shunt cap on the clean amp stage. I didn't prefer the sound removed, but for a feedback cap it's pretty substantial, there is a lot of room to decrease but not omit. The SD-1 has a big problem with high line impedance throughout the pedal, if you want to make it more transparent without changing the voicing, I would start by making the coupling caps larger.

Yeah, it's not night and day or anything. But I think it helped. It just sounds less artificial to me now. More touch sensitive, and a better sounding high end. Not so processed sounding. Clearer overall tone.

I kinda want to try to mod my SD-1 to make it louder. I use the level cranked, and even so, it sucks some level compared to it bypassed with hot pickups like Black Winters.

I was looking into the C6 mod, but since you said it actually makes the pedal quieter, I guess I should keep looking, lol.

Clay Jones / Landgraff mod on my SD-1 supercharged the pedal, analogguru created the mod
and has the part changes about half way down on the first page. Kept C6 and didn't add the feedback loop
47pf cap to retain some of the Boss tone.

Use it primarily for boosting my overdrive channel, perfect pedal for Marshall amps

i didnt like the c6 mod, however putting a jumper over d6 really warms up this pedal. i was shocked the difference that made

Old thread. haha

That said, I did the C6 mod a long time ago. I like it more.
