SD-1 mods

Got myself a SD-1 cheap, ready to mod this beast. I'm about to do the mod 808 mod. http://imageups.com/files/106/SD808.gif And then Tom told me to put 3 LEDs in the dioides, might try that out.

Anyone have any fun/good mods to do? I'm playing thru a 5150 > Mesa Recto 4x12. I'm looking for clarity/tightness while somehow maintaining a little chunk. Also, anyone know any good sites for buying these components, I couldn't find the 10uF on one, and others ask 20 questions and I'm not entirely sure on how specific they need to be.

$22 is too much?

I would leave it asymmetrical. IMO it sounds best with the SD-1. Monte's 808 plus mod sounds awesome.

there is a simple one you can do yourself sounded really good on mine. It got rid of a little bit of the mid spike and added a little bass. Ill look in my stuff here see if I can find.

I actually prefer the edgey assymmetrical nature of the stock SD-1. I DON'T LIKE TUBESCREAMERS

The LEDs in the clipping section make it even edgier, which I really like. Adding a buffer or making it TB is also nice to help with the bleed issues.

If you take out one of the clipping diodes on the side which has two in series and replace it with a Germanium diode the gain gets a little smoother. Going up a value or two on the coupling caps gives you some low end back that the pedal seriously lacks IMO.

I agree about the diystomp community, though the real EE talent resides at freestomp. the drama between the two camps is ridiculous and similar to the rig talk harmony central bs...

Agreed. I thought I liked my recently-purchased vintage TS until I got a Keeley SD-1 yesterday... like the SD-1 better!

Like said above, there are tons of mod info for free on the net. Ill add, I personally like the stock IC in the SD1 best. the 4558 loses out put and punch. the 072 is really bright in the SD-1. Most of the Keeley type mods sound best with the stock IC IMO

I got the Monte Allums mods - there's things in there I've never seen on the net. I can't remember how many mods are in there, but I did them one at a time and only kept 3 - but those 3 make that pedal perfect for what I was looking for.
