SD Humbucker Combo thoughts?

I have a Jackson getting a pair of SD's for typical rock/metal.

The question is JB/59 or JB/Jazz or Dual Duncan Distortion or Dyncan Distortion/Jazz

I am going with the vanilla duncan stuff, yes.

I have a DK2M with JB/Jazz. Love it.

I have a Prestige that came loaded with dual Duncan Distortions, which is great for doom kind of stuff in a weird way.

I have not tried a SD 59 in a very long time don't really remember it.

This will be a possible gigging guitar, going through a Splawn. Part of the reason why I am taking this route is because I like how those pickups react with the Promod.

I don't want to pay more than $150 for the PAIR.

JB SH-4 - I haven't found anything I prefer in the bridge as of yet. Does everything really well.

I have a Jailhouse rail in the neck of my Strat. I was very pleasantly surprised by it.

I had SH-6 in Prestige RG and it was good, very balanced, not shrill. But basswood Prestige's are very different soundwise guitar to guitar although craftmanship is very good. And heavier ones ussually play better imho. I don't think there is general rule but more commo choice for basswood are Dimarzio's. Pickup, which work almost everytime, was Dimarzio D-Sonic or Crunchlab if You want little looser but mellower sound. Premium price choice is Bareknuckle Holydiver, it is just perfect for versatile instrument like RG.

I have a Diatortion Tb-6/Jazz neck in an Ibanez Prestige, mahogany body, maple neck, walnut fretboard, Edge trem. The sound veers towards the brighter crunchy side with these pickups. The distortion is excellent for palm mutes with a quick attack that works well for fast gallops and 16th note thrashy riffs. It has pronounced upper mids and relaxed lower mids. Very much like an emg 81 but with more bass and balls.

The Jazz neck matches up well with the distortion. In comparison the jazz has more bass, more treble and scooped mids. Although fairly bright it still maintains a fluid lead sound and chimey cleans.

For the neck, i am on the fence with the '59 and jazz. I am not looking for vintage tones at all more modern rock/metal.

I tend to like 'glassy' leads on the neck. Which makes me think the jazz may be the ticket.

I prefer the jazz over the 59 in the neck. I feel like it's a little punchier than the 59.

Jazz is definitely glassier. It's tighter and brighter than the '59. '59 is fatter and darker.

Jazz will be too icepicky and squeeky in the neck, ‘59 is better. But none of them are good for basswood, Duncans works better in mahagony and alder guitars. The same for SH-4, it can be very shrill without 250kohm. I suggest AirNorton in the neck.

I have air nortons in the neck position two prestiges, its not my favorite tbh. I like the jazz i have in the neck of another Jackson better than the AN in the ibby.

I have always kept dimarzio in ibanez and SD in Jackson. I don't know why.

I could just try a 59 for the hell of it. What about the Duncan Distortion Neck with a JB?

totally agree. I LOVE the JB/59 but they just don't work at all in basswood to my ears....dimarzio seem to suit basswood better

What wood is my Jackson? It's a MIJ Dinky Reverse. Floyd, has EMG passives atm.

I have one guitar with a '59 in the neck, and a couple of others with the Jazz in the neck. Both work great in the neck. To me, it really depends on the guitar. The Jazz is a bit more articulate in the neck and a bit brighter, so I like it better in most guitars. My old Charvel has the original '59 in the neck. I've just left it. (I don't think the Jazz had been released when that guitar was built.) Anyhow, it's always done the job just fine.
